Texas State Highway 84
State Highway 84 (SH 84) is a proposed state highway in Webb County in the U.S. state of Texas. The route is planned to connect Farm to Market Road 1472 (FM 1472) to Interstate 35 (I-35) in Laredo. The proposed road is also known as the Hachar-Reuthinger Road. History Former route A previous route numbered SH 84 was designated on August 21, 1923, as a route across West Texas from the New Mexico state line through Brownfield and Post to Jayton, replacing portions of SH 18 and SH 39. On December 1, 1930, the section from Clairemont to Jayton was transferred to SH 70 when that highway was rerouted. In 1932, the route was co-located with US Highway 380 (US 380). In 1939, the co-designation with US 380 was completely removed. SH 84A was a spur route designated on May 25, 1925, from SH 84 in Clairemont to Rotan. Jayton, Texas
Jayton is a city in and the county seat of Kent County, Texas, United States. It is located in the northeastern portion of the county, and the population was 534 as of the 2010 census. History Jayton's history begins in the 1880s. Originally known as "Jay Flat", it was established northeast of its present location and named after a local ranching family. A post office was granted in 1886, and Daniel Jay served as the community's first postmaster. In 1907, the townsite was moved to its present location for improved proximity to rail service, and it was officially renamed "Jayton" later that same year. Rotan is a city in Fisher County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,508 at the 2010 census, down from 1,611 at the 2000 census. Geography Texas State Highway 70 passes through the city, leading north to Jayton and south to Roby, the Fisher County seat, and to Sweetwater and Interstate 20. Texas State Highway 92 leads east from Rotan to Hamlin. According to the United States Census Bureau, Rotan has a total area of 2.0 mi2 (5.2 km2), all of it land. Texas State Highway 70
State Highway 70 (SH 70) is a state highway in Texas. The route runs approximately from US 277 near Blackwell to US 83 south of Perryton. Route description SH 70 begins in far northeastern Coke County at a junction with US 277 north of Bronte. The highway soon crosses into Nolan County, where it serves as the northern terminus of SH 153. The first large city along SH 70's route is Sweetwater; here, the route is concurrent with Interstate 20 and US 84 along the south side of the city, between I-20's Exits #244 and #247, before it resumes its northward course and enters Fisher County. Clairemont is a ghost town in and the former county seat of Kent County, Texas, United States. State Highway 18 (SH 18) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that runs from Fort Stockton in western Texas to the Texas-New Mexico state line between Kermit and Jal, New Mexico. Post is a city in and the county seat of Garza County, Texas, United States. Its population was 5,376 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census.
