State Highway 39 (SH 39) is a state highway that runs primarily through the Texas Hill Country primarily in Kerr County. History On January 23, 1918, an intercounty highway was designated from Greenville to Decatur. On February 19, 1918, another intercounty highway from Pecos via Tahoka to Jayton was designated. On August 19, 1918, the Greenville-Decatur intercounty highway was extended to Cooper. SH 39 was originally proposed on January 21, 1919, as a route stretching from the Oklahoma border north of Paris to New Mexico, partially along these intercounty highways. It was concurrent with SH 19 north of Cooper and with SH 18 west of Brownfield. On August 16, 1920, the section from McKinney to Decatur was cancelled and redesignated as an intercounty highway. Ingram, Texas
Ingram is a city in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,804 at the 2010 census. Geography Ingram is located in eastern Kerr County at (30.076903, –99.237367), on the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country. It is west of Kerrville and northwest of San Antonio. Texas State Highway 27 passes through the center of town, leading east to Kerrville and northwest to Mountain Home. Texas State Highway 39 runs west from Ingram to Hunt. Interstate 10 comes within of Ingram, with the closest access from Exit 501 (FM 1338). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which , or 1.50%, are water. State Highway 18 (SH 18) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that runs from Fort Stockton in western Texas to the Texas-New Mexico state line between Kermit and Jal, New Mexico. This route was designated in 1958 over the northern half of what was previously SH 82. Route description SH 18 begins at Fort Stockton at an intersection with Business Interstate 10 and US 285. Lost Maples State Natural Area is a area of hills and canyons on the upper Sabinal River in the Edwards Plateau Region of Texas. It is designated a ''Natural Area'', rather than a ''State Park'', which means the primary focus is the maintenance and protection of the property's natural state. Leakey, Texas
Leakey ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Real County, Texas, United States. The population was 425 at the 2010 census. The city is named for John H. Leakey (1824–1900), a pioneer from Tennessee. The Alto Frio Baptist Encampment is located to the southeast of the community. History Archaeological excavations in the Frio Canyon region revealed Paleo-American, Archaic, and Neo-American occupations. Later, several Native American tribes, including Lipan Apache, Comanche, and Tonkawa inhabited or traversed the area. Anglo-American settlement of the area began in 1856 when John Leakey, his wife Nancy, and a few others settled near a spring along the banks of the Frio River. Medina is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, United States. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Medina is famous for its apples. The community's population was estimated to be 515 in 2000. History Several families had settled in the community and a sawmill was built in Medina around 1865. A post office was established at Medina in 1880 and developed a gin, a corn mill, a hotel, a private bank, three general stores, and two churches serving 150 residents by the end of the next decade. Many residents were farmers who raised livestock. The population of Medina jumped to 400 by 1914, which then plunged to 250 when the Great Depression forced people to search for new jobs in the early 1930s. It did manage to recover from the Great Depression, with the population growing to 475 by the late 1940s with several businesses and four churches.
