Texas State Highway 168
State Highway 168 (SH 168 or TX 168) is a short state highway located entirely within the city of Galveston in the U.S. state of Texas. The highway connects SH 87 to Coast Guard Station Galveston, on the eastern portion of Galveston Island. At just under in length, the highway is the second-shortest in the state, and the shortest signed highway ( SH165, which is shorter, is officially designated but not signed). The road travels along the edge of residential area for most of its length before it bends northeast and runs through a small marsh. The route was first proposed by 1932; it would have traveled through Atascosa and Wilson counties. Portions of the proposal were replaced by SH 97 by at least 1935, while the rest was cancelled. State Highway 87 first followed the routing of SH 168, but was moved by 1961. A short railroad spur was built along the course of the route, and SH 168 was officially designated on October 24, 1985. Texas State Highway 97
State Highway 97 (SH 97) is a state highway running from Cotulla to Waelder in the U.S. state of Texas. History SH 97 was designated on July 18, 1924, as a route from Pleasanton to Jourdanton. On September 19, 1928, SH 97 extended south to Rio Grande City via Hebbronville and Tilden; this extension was cancelled on June 25, 1929, and SH 97 was instead extended to Fowlerton; On November 30, 1932, a second section of SH 97 was added from Rio Grande City to Hebbronville, with the possibility of these sections being connected in the future. On February 12, 1934, the northern section extended along a new route to Floresville. (causing the cancellation of SH 168 south of there). On March 13, 1934, the northern section extended to Stockdale, replacing SH 168. Campbellton, Texas
Campbellton is an unincorporated community in Atascosa County, Texas, United States. According to the ''Handbook of Texas'', the community had an estimated population of 350 in 2000. Campbellton is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History An Irish immigrant, John F. Campbell, began the community in the 1860s by promoting settlement in the area. He was the first postmaster in the community when the post office was established in the 1870s. He also opened a general store in the community and held Catholic church services in his home. The population was 25 in 1894 but then grew to 30 in 1890. It had three churches, a gin, two livestock breeders, and a lumberyard during that same time. The community's population went down during the middle of the decade, but it gained a general store and another livestock breeder. State Highway 81 (SH 81) is a Texas state highway that runs from Hillsboro to Grandview. It was designated in 1991 to replace U.S. Highway 81, which was decommissioned south of Fort Worth.
