Campbellton, Texas
Campbellton is an unincorporated community in Atascosa County, Texas, United States. According to the ''Handbook of Texas'', the community had an estimated population of 350 in 2000. Campbellton is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History An Irish immigrant, John F. Campbell, began the community in the 1860s by promoting settlement in the area. He was the first postmaster in the community when the post office was established in the 1870s. He also opened a general store in the community and held Catholic church services in his home. The population was 25 in 1894 but then grew to 30 in 1890. It had three churches, a gin, two livestock breeders, and a lumberyard during that same time. The community's population went down during the middle of the decade, but it gained a general store and another livestock breeder. Three Rivers, Texas
Three Rivers is a city in Live Oak County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. History Mrs. Annie T. Hamilton of Cuero owned a tract of land in the Brush Country where Three Rivers now sits. At the urging of Mrs. Hamilton, Charles R. Tips came to the Brush Country. In 1913, Mrs. Hamilton paid the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railroad to build a depot on her land. Tips organized a townsite company and sold land for the township. On July 4, 1913 the town began with a grand opening and first sale of land. From its formation, it was designed as a segregated township, with the "Mexican" section located between the river and the railroad tracks, west of the business section. Christine, Texas
Christine is a town in Atascosa County, Texas, United States. The population was 390 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Etymology In October 1910, the town of "New Artesia" was to be incorporated. When the papers were presented in Austin, the men who took them there were told that they would have to change the name since there was already a town in West Texas with that name. The men returned home, called a town meeting and asked for suggestions. Not having any luck, the city council members finally authorized their wives to choose a suitable name. The ladies renamed New Artesia "Christine" after Christine Andrews, the first baby girl born in the town. She was the daughter of City Marshal James Andrews and wife, Rieta.
