Tawfik ( ar, توفيق), or Tewfik, is an Arabic masculine given name. The name is derived from the Arabic root: waaw-faa-qaaf (), which means to agree or to reconcile. Tawfik translates to, "the ability or opportunity to achieve success". A spelling of ''Tewfik'' or ''Toufic'' is used more among French speakers. Tawfik can be used as a given name or surname. Tevfik Akbasli (born 1962) is a Turkish composer. Studies One of the most acknowledged 71 Turkish Composers, Akbasli is the son of businessman Samim Akbasli of Izmir. He spent his childhood and elementary school years in Yesilkoy, Istanbul until his family moved to Izmir. He attended Dokuz Eylül University’s Vocal Studies and Opera Division and studied with names like Sevda Aydan, Suat Taser, Kamran Ince and percussionist Oktay Aykoc while playing drums at various clubs in Istanbul and Izmir. He graduated from Vocal Studies in 1982 as the first chorister to the newly founded Izmir State Opera and Ballet. In 1985, he passed the orchestra exam and crossed over as a percussion artist. Tevfik Esenç
Tevfik Esenç (1904 – 7 October 1992) was a Turkish citizen of Circassian origin, known for being the last speaker of the Ubykh language. He was fluent in Ubykh, Adyghe and Turkish. After his death in 1992, the Ubykh language went extinct despite the efforts and work of numerous linguists to revive it. Nevertheless, Esenç is single-handedly responsible for the world's current knowledge of Ubykh language and culture being as extensive and detailed as it is. Biography Esenç was raised by his Ubykh-speaking grandparents for a time in the village of Hacıosman ( Ubykh: ''Lak°'ạ́ṡ°a''; Adyghe: ''Hundjahabl'') in Turkey, and he served a term as the ''muhtar'' (mayor) of that village, before receiving a post in the civil service of Istanbul. Ubykh Language
Ubykh or Päkhy was a Northwest Caucasian language once spoken by the Ubykh tribe of Circassians who originally lived along the eastern coast of the Black Sea before being deported ''en masse'' to Turkey in the Circassian genocide. The Ubykh language was ergative and polysynthetic, with a high degree of agglutination, with polypersonal verbal agreement and a very large number of distinct consonants but only two phonemically distinct vowels. With around eighty consonants, it had one of the largest inventories of consonants in the world, and the largest number for any language without clicks. Tevfik Gelenbe (1931, Istanbul – 20 October 2004, Istanbul) was a well-known and prolific Turkish actor and comedian. He was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He is best known for his character "Bacı Kalfa" in the 1980s TV serial ''Uğurlugil Ailesi''. He was also the founder, in 1969, of the organization "Tevfik Gelenbe Tiyatrosu", which provided free theatre education to young actors. He died at the age of 73 due to complications of cancer. Tevfik Kış (10 August 1934 – 4 September 2019 ) was a Turkish European, World and Olympic champion sports wrestler in the Light heavyweight class (87 kg) and a trainer. He won the gold medal in men's Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1960 Olympics. Born 1934 in the village of Pelitçik in the Kargı district in the Çorum Province, he began wrestling in 1956. Competing in Greco-Roman style, Kış became a gold medalist in wrestling at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He won later World and European championships. After his unsuccessful participation at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, he retired from the active sports and served then as trainer of his country's national team.
