Terry Murphy (snooker Player)
Terry Murphy (born March 6, 1972) is a Northern Irish former professional snooker player. __TOC__ Career Murphy started playing the game on a reduced-size table his parents bought him in order to keep him off the streets of his native Derry while growing up, before he moved to The Midlands when he was a teenager. Murphy turned professional in 1991, and represented Northern Ireland at the World Cup in 1996, and also had his highest-ranking finish of a quarter-final in the 1997 Welsh Open. He reached a career high ranking of 29th in Snooker world rankings 1997/1998 and 1998/1999. He appeared in the 1998 World Championship where he lost 3–10 to Peter Ebdon. Derry
Derry, officially Londonderry (), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. Snooker World Rankings
The snooker world rankings are the official system of ranking professional snooker players to determine automatic qualification and seeding for tournaments on the World Snooker Tour. The ranking lists are maintained by the sport's governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Each player's world ranking is based on their performances in designated ranking tournaments over the preceding two years. The world ranking list is updated after every ranking tournament. The system of world rankings was inaugurated in the 1976–77 season. Until the 2013–14 season, the point tariffs for each tournament were set by the governing body, but the rankings transitioned to a prize money list in the 2014–15 season. LG Corporation signed a sponsorship agreement with World Snooker, and the seven world ranking events before the World Championship were branded as the "LG Electronics Tour". Due to a legal ban, this was the final season to have events sponsored by tobacco companies (apart from Embassy, who would continue to sponsor the World Championship for another two years).
