Terrebonne, Minnesota
Terrebonne is a former townsite on the Clearwater River in Terrebonne Township, Red Lake County, Minnesota, United States. It is along State Highway 92 ( MN 92) and County Road 12. In 1901, the village of Terrebonne was the site of a thriving flour mill, a cheese factory, a blacksmith shop, a general store and an "eating place", the latter operated by a Mrs. Lajeunesse, in addition to a number of residences. In 1920, the village was reported to have as many as 119 residents. There are 87 County (United States), counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. There are also several List of counties in Minnesota#Historical counties, historical counties. On October 27, 1849, nine counties were established: Benton, Dahkotah, Itasca, Ramsey, Mahkahta, Pembina, Wabasha, Washington, and Wahnata. Six of these names still exist. Red Lake County is a county in the Northwestern part of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,935, making it the third-least populous county in Minnesota. Its county seat is Red Lake Falls. History Red Lake County was formed on December 24, 1896 from sections of Polk County. It was named for the Red Lake River. Its designated county seat was Red Lake Falls, which had been incorporated (as a village) in 1881. The county has two sites on the National Register of Historic Places: the courthouse and Clearwater Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Route description Highway 92 serves as an east–west and north–south route in northwest Minnesota between Red Lake Falls, Brooks, Clearbrook, Bagley, and Zerkel.
