Teresa (1987 Film)
''Teresa'' is a 1987 Italian comedy film written and directed by Dino Risi, that stars Serena Grandi and Luca Barbareschi. It tells the story of Teresa, an attractive young widow who works as a lorry driver to pay off her husband's debts. Plot In the Italian province of Romagna, Teresa drives a lorry with her older husband Stallino, who dies. She discovers that he owed 80 million lire to Nabucco, a local entrepreneur, who now wants to marry her. She persuades Nabucco to let her work until Ferragosto next year when, if she has not earned enough to repay him, she will marry him. Having no affection for Nabucco, she takes whatever jobs she can get and as co-driver hires Gino, a happy-go-lucky young man to whom she is attracted. As he has no money and she must work, marriage is out of the question and their relationship is often stormy. Dino Risi
Dino Risi (23 December 1916 – 7 June 2008) was an Italian film director. With Mario Monicelli, Luigi Comencini, Nanni Loy and Ettore Scola, he was one of the masters of ''commedia all'italiana''. Biography Risi was born in Milan. He had an older brother, Fernando, a cinematographer, and a younger brother, Nelo Risi, Nelo (1920–2015), a director and writer. Ferragosto
Ferragosto is a public holiday celebrated on August 15th in all of Italy. It originates from Feriae Augusti, the festival of emperor Augustus, who made the 1st of August a day of rest after weeks of hard work on the agricultural sector. It became a custom for the workers to wish their employers "buon ferragosto" and receive a monetary bonus in return. This became law during the Renaissance throughout the papal states. As the festivity was created for political reasons, the Catholic Church decided to move the festivity to the 15th of August which is the Assumption of Mary allowing them to include this in the festivity. This festivity was also used by Mussolini to give the lower classes the possibility to visit cultural cities or go to the seaside for one to three days, from the 14th of August to the 16th, by creating "holiday trains" with extremely low cost tickets, for this holiday period. Giovanni "Pupo" De Luca (18 December 1924 – 18 December 2006) was an Italian actor and jazz musician. Life and career Born in Milan, after the World War II De Luca started his career in the theaters of his hometown, performing in revues, dialect theatre, and dramas. He had his breakout in the late 1960s, with the role of Fritz in the RAI TV-series ''Nero Wolfe''. In films, he was mainly active as a character actor, except for a number of main roles in a few low budget comedies. De Luca was also well known as a jazz drummer, and his collaborations include Chet Baker, Franco Cerri, Enrico Intra, Bud Shank, and Gianni Basso. Eros Pagni (born 28 August 1939) is an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in La Spezia, at the age of 17, Pagni started attending the Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome and then went back to Genoa and played roles in works by William Shakespeare, Molière, Eugene O'Neill, Luigi Pirandello and more. As a film actor, Pagni has appeared in more than 30 films since 1964. Romagna ( rgn, Rumâgna) is an Italian historical region that approximately corresponds to the south-eastern portion of present-day Emilia-Romagna, North Italy. Traditionally, it is limited by the Apennines to the south-west, the Adriatic to the east, and the rivers Reno and Sillaro to the north and west. Bernardino Zapponi (4 September 1927 – 11 February 2000) was an Italian novelist and screenwriter best known for his films written in collaboration with Federico Fellini. Biography Zapponi was born in Rome in 1927. Luca Barbareschi
Luca Barbareschi (born 28 July 1956 in Montevideo) is an Italian-Uruguayan actor, television presenter, and former member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. Barbareschi is Jewish. He was one of four actors whom the Italian police believed had been murdered in the making of the 1980 horror film '' Cannibal Holocaust'', where he also abused and killed a young piglet. So realistic was the film that shortly after it was released its director Ruggero Deodato was arrested on suspicions of murder. The actors had signed contracts to stay out of the media for a year in order to fuel rumours that the film was a snuff movie.
