Teodoro Correr
Teodoro Francesco Maria Gasparo Correr (12 December 1750, Venice - 20 February 1830, Venice) was a Venetian abbot and art collector, most notable as the founder of the Museo Correr. Life The Correr family was an old patrician family in Venice. Teodoro's father was Giacomo and his wife, the Neapolitan noblewoman Anna Maria Petagno, daughter of Andrea, from the princely family of Trebisaccia. Teodoro was the first of nine brothers and aged ten was sent to school with the Teatini at San Nicola da Tolentino. He only stayed there a year before moving to the San Cipriano college on Murano, which he left aged twenty-one in 1771. Even as a youth he became interested in collecting objects and artworks relating to Venice and its history. When they reached twenty-five all Venetian patricians were required to take up minor magistracies and Correr reluctantly followed suit. Giovanni Bellini
Giovanni Bellini (; c. 1430 – 26 November 1516) was an Italian Renaissance painter, probably the best known of the Bellini family of Venetian painters. Jacopo De' Barbari
Jacopo de' Barbari, sometimes known or referred to as de'Barbari, de Barberi, de Barbari, Barbaro, Barberino, Barbarigo or Barberigo (c. 1460/70 – before 1516), was an Italian painter, printmaker and miniaturist with a highly individual style. He moved from Venice to Germany in 1500, thus becoming the first Italian Renaissance artist of stature to work in Northern Europe. His few surviving paintings (about twelve) include the first known example of ''trompe-l'œil'' since antiquity. His twenty-nine engravings and three very large woodcuts were also highly influential. ''Two Venetian Ladies'' is an oil on panel painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Vittore Carpaccio. The painting, believed to be a quarter of the original work, was executed around 1490 and shows two unknown Venetian ladies. The top portion of the panel, called ''Hunting on the Lagoon'' is in the Getty Museum, and another matching panel is missing. The painting was formerly considered to show two courtesans. Modern art historians think them more likely members to be of the patrician Torella family, as suggested by their fine clothes and the pearl necklaces, but academic debate continues, as with other similar Venetian paintings of the period. Gentile Bellini (c. 1429 – 23 February 1507) was an Italian painter of the school of Venice. Antonello da Messina, properly Antonello di Giovanni di Antonio, but also called Antonello degli Antoni and Anglicized as Anthony of Messina ( 1430February 1479), was an Italian painter from Messina, active during the Early Italian Renaissance. Pietà (Cosmè Tura)
''Pietà'' is a tempera on panel painting by Cosmè Tura, measuring 47.7 cm by 33.5 cm. It is now in the Museo Correr in Venice, to which it was left with the rest of the collection of Teodoro Correr on 1 January 1830. It was attributed to Luca d'Olanda until 1859, when Vincenzo Lazari recognised it as a work by Tura. By comparison with the same artist's ''Calliope'' and his Roverella Altarpiece, it has been dated to around 1460. Description and style The work presents a fairly classic iconography, that of Vesperbild, slightly revisited, where the dimension of pain is sublimated.
