Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson (6 August 1809 – 6 October 1892) was an English poet. He was the Poet Laureate during much of Queen Victoria's reign. In 1829, Tennyson was awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal at Cambridge for one of his first pieces, "Timbuktu". He published his first solo collection of poems, ''Poems, Chiefly Lyrical'', in 1830. "Claribel" and "Mariana", which remain some of Tennyson's most celebrated poems, were included in this volume. Although described by some critics as overly sentimental, his verse soon proved popular and brought Tennyson to the attention of well-known writers of the day, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Tennyson's early poetry, with its medievalism and powerful visual imagery, was a major influence on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Edwin Tennyson D'Eyncourt
Admiral Edwin Clayton Tennyson d'Eyncourt (4 July 1813 – 14 January 1903) was a distinguished British naval officer. Early life Edwin was the second son of Charles Tennyson d'Eyncourt and Frances Mary Hutton, the only child and heiress of the Rev. John Hutton, Rector of Lea. His paternal grandparents were Elizabeth (née Clayton) Tennyson and George Tennyson. Upon his grandfather's death in July 1835, his father inherited the family estates and changed his family's surname to Tennyson d'Eyncourt. Through his younger brother Louis, he was uncle to Sir Eustace Tennyson d'Eyncourt, 1st Baronet, a naval architect who was the Navy's Director of Naval Construction. He was a first cousin of the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Nick Tennyson
Nicholas J. Tennyson (born September 29, 1950) was the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Transportation under former Governor Pat McCrory and former two-term mayor of Durham, North Carolina. Mayor of Durham Tennyson was mayor from 1997 to 2001. Elected in November, 1997, Tennyson was re-elected in 1999 with almost two-thirds of the vote but lost a second re-election bid to Bill Bell by fewer than 500 votes in 2001. Matthew Tennyson is an English actor of stage and screen. He won the Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Newcomer in 2012. Early life Tennyson was born in Stoke Newington, London, the son of Jonathan Tennyson, a physics professor, and a nurse. He is a great-great-great-grandson of poet laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Matthew Thomas Tennyson (born April 23, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey Defenseman (ice hockey), defenseman for HC Lugano of the National League (ice hockey), National League (NL). McKinley Tennyson (born March 24, 1979, in Monterey, California) is an American soccer forward who played two seasons with the Portland Timbers and the 2002 playoffs with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He was the 2002 USL First Division points leader. Youth Tennyson grew up the son of a U.S. Army officer, moving every few years. When he was eight, the family settled in Indianapolis, Indiana, where Tennyson lived until graduating from North Central High School. John Tennyson
John Tennyson (born 6 February 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in County Kilkenny, Tennyson first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 and intermediate sides. He made his senior debut during the 2005 championship. Tennyson went on to play for what has come to be known as the greatest team of all-time, and has won three All-Ireland medals, four Leinster medals and two National Hurling League medals. Eóin Tennyson (born 17 May 1998) is a Northern Irish Alliance Party politician who has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Upper Bann since the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election. Early life and career Tennyson attended St. Patrick's Academy, a Catholic grammar school in Dungannon, County Tyrone. David Tennyson, 6th Baron Tennyson
Baron Tennyson, of Aldworth in the County of Sussex and of Freshwater in the Isle of Wight, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1884 for the poet Alfred Tennyson. His son, the second Baron, served as Governor-General of Australia, and his grandson, the third Baron, as a captain for the English cricket team. On the death in 2006 of the latter's younger son, the fifth Baron, the line of the eldest son of the first Baron failed. Mark Tennyson, 5th Baron Tennyson
Mark Aubrey Tennyson, 5th Baron Tennyson (28 March 1920 – 3 July 2006) was a British peer. He was the second son of Lionel Tennyson, 3rd Baron Tennyson and Hon. Clare Tennant. The great-grandson of poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, he succeeded his brother to the title in 1991. Tennyson served in the Royal Navy from 1937 to 1960, rising to the rank of commander, and saw action during World War II. He was mentioned in dispatches in 1945 in recognition of his military service during the war. He was subsequently an executive of Rowntree Mackintosh and Joseph Terry & Sons. Harold Tennyson, 4th Baron Tennyson
Harold Christopher Tennyson, 4th Baron Tennyson (25 March 191919 October 1991), was a British peer. He was the oldest son of Lionel Tennyson, 3rd Baron Tennyson and the Hon. Clarissa Madeline Georgiana Felicite Tennant, his first marriage and her second. Harold was the great-grandson of poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and succeeded his father as the 4th Baron Tennyson in 1951. He studied at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge before joining the War Office in 1940. In later life he was co-founder with Sir Charles Tennyson of the Tennyson Research Centre, Lincoln. Lionel Hallam Tennyson, 3rd Baron Tennyson (7 November 1889 – 6 June 1951) was known principally as a first-class cricketer who captained Hampshire and England. The grandson of the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and the son of the Governor-General of Australia, he succeeded his father to the title in 1928, having been known before that as "The Hon Lionel Tennyson". He should not be confused with his uncle, after whom he was named, who was also "The Hon Lionel Tennyson".
