McKinley Tennyson
McKinley Tennyson (born March 24, 1979, in Monterey, California) is an American soccer forward who played two seasons with the Portland Timbers and the 2002 playoffs with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He was the 2002 USL First Division points leader. Youth Tennyson grew up the son of a U.S. Army officer, moving every few years. When he was eight, the family settled in Indianapolis, Indiana, where Tennyson lived until graduating from North Central High School. Tennyson won four consecutive state championships with the North Central soccer team while being selected as a 1995 and 1996 Parade Magazine High School All American. In 1997, he entered UCLA where he would play on the men's soccer team until 2000. In 1997, Tennyson and his teammates won the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship and in 2000, he was a second team All American. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2004. Monterey (; es, Monterrey; Ohlone: ) is a city located in Monterey County on the southern edge of Monterey Bay on the U.S. state of California's Central Coast. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Sporting Kansas City, often shortened to Sporting KC, is an American men's professional soccer club based in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Fadi Afash (born 4 January 1974 in Syria) is a former association football, football player, most notably with the Portland Timbers (2001–10), Portland Timbers of the USL First Division. Afash is best known among Timbers fans for scoring the "Sunshine Goal", a goal that not only carried a strong emotional connection for many fans but also won the Timbers the 2004 regular-season championship of the USL First Division.
