Bedford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 50,237. Its county seat is Shelbyville. Bedford County comprises the Shelbyville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Nashville- Davidson- Murfreesboro, TN Combined Statistical Area. History The county was created in 1807 when the citizens of Rutherford County living south of the Duck River and the Stones River successfully petitioned the governor to split Rutherford County in two. The new county was named after American Revolutionary War officer and large landowner in the area, Thomas Bedford. Once the state's largest and most populous county, Bedford County's size (in terms of area) has been steadily reduced since 1809 to form Coffee County, Moore County, Lincoln County, and Marshall County. Normandy, Tennessee
Normandy is a town in Bedford County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 141 at the 2010 census. Normandy Dam is located just northeast of the town. The town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Normandy Historic District. The historic Beech Hall is also located near Normandy. History Normandy was established in 1852 as a railroad town on the old Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad Line later the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railroad. Tennessee State Route 130
State Route 130 (SR 130) is 51.3-mile long east–west state highway in Middle Tennessee. Route description SR 130 begins Marshall County in Petersburg at an intersection with US 431/ SR 50/ SR 129. SR 130 goes east into downtown, concurrent with SR 129, along Railroad Street to an intersection with N High Street along the Lincoln County line, where SR 130 splits off from heads north, in Marshall County. It leaves Petersburg and continues north through farmland and rural areas to cross into Bedford County. The highway then curves to the northeast and becomes concurrent with SR 64 just prior to entering Shelbyville. SR 64/SR 130 run parallel to the Duck River as they pass through neighborhoods before coming to an intersection with US 231/ SR 10 (S Cannon Boulevard), whey they become concurrent with them as the highway heads north past businesses before crossing the Duck River into downtown. Tennessee State Route 16
State Route 16 (SR 16) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Its southern terminus is at the Alabama state line, where it continues as State Route 79 (SR 79) in Alabama. From there, it continues to Winchester, where it becomes unsigned in a concurrency with U.S. Route 41A (US 41A). This concurrency lasts until its northern terminus in Williamson County, at a junction with U.S. Route 31A (US 31A). Route description Franklin County SR 16 begins at the Alabama State Line in Franklin County, on top of a very tall ridge, where it continues as State Route 79, several miles north of Scottsboro, AL. It continues north as a very curvy 2-lane highway before exiting the mountains and lowering down into some farmland. It then goes north to enter Winchester at an interchange with US 64 and SR 15, a 4-lane bypass of Winchester, before turning east and entering downtown.
