Ten Pound Poms (TV Series)
''Ten Pound Poms'' is an upcoming British historical drama television series created by Danny Brocklehurst for BBC and Stan. The series stars Michelle Keegan, Faye Marsay and Warren Brown as British citizens who migrated to Australia after the Second World War. The series is set to premiere in 2023 and run for six episodes. Premise The story follows a group of Brits, often then colloquially known as Poms in Australia and New Zealand, departing post-war Britain in 1956 for Australia, having been promised a better house, better job prospects and a better quality of life for just £10. However, the group soon learn life in Australia isn't as promised. Struggling with their new identity as immigrants, we follow their triumphs and pitfalls as they adapt to a new life in a new country far from Britain and familiarity. Danny Brocklehurst
Danny Brocklehurst (born June 1971 in Hyde, Cheshire) is an English screenwriter and playwright. He has won both BAFTA and Royal Television Society writing awards. He was featured in the writers' section of the '' Broadcast magazine'' Hot 100 2007. In 2013 he also wrote the track "Ring" with dance band Mint Royale, featuring the vocals of Willem Dafoe. Early career Brocklehurst worked as a journalist for several years (as a freelancer for ''The Guardian'', '' City Life'' and ''Manchester Evening News'' and senior feature writer for ''The Big Issue'') before becoming a full-time screenwriter. He cited Tony Marchant, Jimmy McGovern and Alan Bleasdale as his writing inspirations. In a Creative Times feature in 2010, he wrote that ''Our Friends in the North'' was his favourite drama of all time.
