The Television Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne, also known by the street name City Road, was home and headquarters of the ITV contractor for the North East region, Tyne Tees Television, between 1959 and 2005. History The studios were originally created from two furniture warehouses that had been purchased by the company in 1958 following their acquisition of the franchise. The warehouses were gutted, with the shell of the building being fitted out with studios, galleries, scenery block and offices for the company. Upon completion in 1959, four studios were fitted into the building. The practice of buying an older building and fitting it out as a studio complex was in fact a very common element of early ITV stations. Of the original companies, all with the exception of Granada, Westward and Border, converted existing buildings rather than building purpose built studios. ITV Tyne Tees & Border is the producer of regional programming for the ITV Tyne Tees and ITV Border franchises. Between 2009 and 2013, the two regions were merged into a single region (although still with two franchises). Since 2013, each region receives its own regional service, but both services use the same studios and presenters. Overview The news service transmits to a vast area – northern and central Cumbria, County Durham, Dumfries and Galloway, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, the Scottish Borders and Tyne and Wear. Television Centre, Southampton was home to the three ITV (TV network), ITV contractors for the South and South East region: Southern Television, Southern, Television South, TVS, and Meridian Broadcasting, Meridian. It was also known as The Southern Television Centre, The Southampton Television Centre, and unofficially as The Northam Studios. The studio centre was constructed in 1967, vacated in 2004 and demolished in 2008. The site laid empty until 2015 when a £40 million development scheme to build 350 flats began. The London Studios
The London Studios (also known as The South Bank Studios, The London Television Centre, ITV Tower, Kent House and LWT Tower) in Lambeth, Central London was a television studio complex owned by ITV plc and originally built for London Weekend Television. The studios were located in Central London, on the South Bank next to the IBM Building and the Royal National Theatre. The building was set on 2.5 acres of land and was 24 floors high. The London Studios closed on 30 April 2018. Many ITV programmes now come from BBC Studioworks Television Centre, White City, London.
