Teebs
Mtendere Mandowa, better known by his stage name Teebs, is an American record producer and visual artist from Los Angeles, California. He is a member of the My Hollow Drum collective. He is also one half of the duo Sons of the Morning. Life and career Born in The Bronx, Mandowa was raised by parents from Malawi and Barbados. Teebs released his first album, '' Ardour'', on Brainfeeder in 2010. '' LA Weekly'' called it "one of the most delicate and lovely albums of the year". It was followed by a compilation album, ''Collections 01'', released on Brainfeeder in 2011. In 2013, Sons of the Morning, his collaborative project with Prefuse 73, released the debut EP, ''Speak Soon Volume One'', on Yellow Year Records. In 2014, Teebs released his second studio album, '' Estara'', on Brainfeeder. Ardour (album)
''Ardour'' is the debut studio album by Teebs. It was released on Brainfeeder on October 19, 2010. Production When Teebs created the songs for the album, his father got ill. The two spent more time together and understood each other. Teebs made his father listen to his music for the first time. After the death of his father, he took a break from creating music for about four or five months. He then randomly bought some instruments such as a little flute and wind chimes and created a song called "Burner". It took two years for him to create the album. Critical reception Rory Gibb of ''The Quietus'' commented that "''Ardour'' is a lush, sumptuous record, openly heartfelt and immediately welcoming, though deceptively complex beneath its gauzy surface." It features guest appearances from Jonti, Populous, Prefuse 73, and Lars Horntveth. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 68, based on 14 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". ''Duality'' (stylized as ''DU∆LITY'') is the debut mixtape from Captain Murphy, the animated rapper alter-ego of experimental musician Flying Lotus. It was initially released as a 34-minute short film featuring songs performed by Murphy as well as archived cult footage (including footage involving Heaven's Gate co-founder Marshall Applewhite), pornography, cartoons and 1980s films. A deluxe edition was released for download on November 28, 2012, with tracks separated, as well as bonus tracks and instrumentals. Background Captain Murphy first appeared over the summer of 2012 on the Flying Lotus-produced track "Between Friends" for the 2012 Adult Swim Singles Program. Brainfeeder is an independent record label based in Los Angeles, California, founded by Flying Lotus in 2008, focusing on electronic music and instrumental hip hop. It has signed artists such as Ras G, Samiyam, The Gaslamp Killer, Thundercat, The Underachievers, Lapalux, Daedelus, and Mr. Oizo. Hundred Waters is an American band formed in Gainesville, Florida in October 2011, composed of Nicole Miglis (vocals, piano, flute), Trayer Tryon (production, electronics, bass) and Zach Tetreault (drums, percussion, trumpet). Alfred Darlington (born Alfred Weisberg-Roberts, October 31, 1977), better known by their stage name Daedelus, is an American record producer based in Los Angeles, California. They are a part of the groups The Long Lost and Adventure Time. They are affiliated with the internet radio station Dublab. Early life Daedelus attended the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music studying Jazz on Double Bass. Career A teenage obsession with Greek mythology led them to adopt the stage name Daedelus—a tribute to the artist, inventor, and craftsman (spelled Daedalus). In 1999 they began DJing Dublab.com's ''Entropy Sessions'' and releasing their own early demo productions.
