Ted Phillips (footballer)
Edward John Phillips (21 August 1933 – 9 January 2018) was an English professional footballer. Biography Phillips was born in Gromford, Suffolk and started his football career at local club Leiston before joining the British Army., 21 August 2013 After leaving the army he was recommended to Ipswich Town by a scout and attended a trial at the club. The club offered Phillips a contract, but he initially refused to sign as he was earning more money as a gardener in Tunstall. The club later offered to pay transport expenses and a total wage of £8 a week, after which he signed for the club. After making his debut against Watford in March 1954, Phillips spent the 1955–56 season on loan to Stowmarket. Phillips went on to make over 250 appearances for Ipswich between 1953 and 1964, scoring over 150 goals and making him the third highest scorer in the club's history. Tunstall, Suffolk
On an Ordnance Survey map of Suffolk, England, there are two settlements named Tunstall next to each other, north east of Woodbridge. However, these are not two separate villages but one, despite the gap between the main village and the hamlet known as Tunstall Common. Both lie within the parish of Tunstall. The village itself is a good sized settlement with a pub (The Green Man) and a church called St Michael's, notable for its unusual box pews. Half a mile away, Tunstall Common has a dozen houses and a Baptist chapel. Residents of the hamlet consider themselves to live at Tunstall on the Common, and letters are either addressed to The Common, Tunstall, or Tunstall Common. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. Maltese FA Trophy
The FA Trophy, currently known as the IZIBET FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual football cup competition that takes place in Malta. The cup was founded in 1933; following a match between England and Italy, played in Rome in May 1933, to where a number of pro-British Maltese supporters travelled to support the English side. The Football Association as recognition donated a silver trophy to be played on the model of the FA Cup. The team who wins the cup, wins a place in the First qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Independence Cup (Malta)
The Independence Cup was a football competition that took place in Gozo, Malta. The cup holders in 2010 were Victoria Hotspurs who won the cup after beating Sannat Lions 7–0 in the 2009 final at the newly refurbished Sannat Ground. This competition was played on a knock-out basis between the clubs of the First Division. The first Independence Cup took place in the season 1964–1965 — that is the same year that Malta gained its independence. Generally the final was held on the Independence Day – that is 21 September. Robert Alfred Smith (22 February 1933 – 18 September 2010) was an English footballer who played as a centre-forward for Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton and Hove Albion and England. Peter Lorimer
Peter Patrick Lorimer (14 December 1946 – 20 March 2021) was a Scottish professional footballer, best known for his time with Leeds United and Scotland during the late 1960s and early 1970s. An attacking midfielder and the club's youngest-ever player, he was renowned for his powerful strikes from distance. From 1984 to 1985 he was club captain.
