Ted Neeley
Teddie Joe "Ted" Neeley (born September 20, 1943) is an American singer, actor, musician, composer, and record producer. He is known for portraying the title role in ''Jesus Christ Superstar'' (1973), a role for which he was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and has reprised numerous times. Neeley considers himself a baritone, and is known for his extremely wide vocal range and rock screams—notably the G above high C ( G5) in "Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)" from ''Jesus Christ Superstar''. Early life and career Neeley was born in Ranger, Texas. He signed his first record deal in 1965, at age 22, with Capitol Records. He and his group, The Teddy Neeley Five, recorded an album titled ''Teddy Neeley''. They played the club circuit for years, and their name (on a marquee) appeared in the pilot episode of ''Dragnet 1967''. Ranger is a city in Eastland County, Texas, United States. Its population was 2,468 at the 2010 census. Ranger College, a community college, is the second-largest employer in the community. During the 1920s, Ranger, like nearby Cisco, Eastland, and Desdemona, was a petroleum boomtown. History The Texas Pacific Coal Company of Thurber, Texas, drilled a gas well north of Ranger in August 1917, after town civic leaders offered acreage in return for four test wells. Then on 11 October 1917, the McClesky well, 1 mile southwest of Ranger, produced oil at 1200 BOPD. Production came from the Strawn Formation sandstones at , the Smithwick Shale, and the Marble Falls Formation limestone at feet. The Ranger Oil Field production peaked in July 1919 at 80,000 BOPD. Universal Amphitheatre
Universal Amphitheatre (later known as Gibson Amphitheatre) was an indoor amphitheatre located in Los Angeles, California within Universal City. It was built as an outdoor venue, opening in the summer of 1972 with a production of ''Jesus Christ Superstar.'' It was remodeled and converted into an indoor theatre in 1982 to improve acoustics. The amphitheater closed on September 6, 2013 and was demolished for ''The Wizarding World of Harry Potter'' attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.
