Ted Brown (Australian Footballer)
Edward Valentine Brown (18 October 1891 – 8 December 1957) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda and Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Mungo Brown (1861-1911), and Margaret Ann Brown (1863-1933), née Peel, Edward Valentine Brown was born in Bendigo on 18 October 1891. He married Lucy Catherine Miller (1891-1980) in 1921. Their sons, Vincent (1922-1989), and John (1923-2007), also played for Carlton (117 games and 90 games, respectively). Football St Kilda Ted Brown played with Ararat Football Club in 1911–13, 18 games, including premierships in the 1911 and 1912 Wimmera & District Football Association. He played with Ararat on Wednesdays and in Ballarat on Saturdays. Brown, who was brought up in Ballarat, was recruited to St Kilda from Caulfield. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Vin Brown
Edward Vincent Brown (5 February 1922 – 11 May 1989) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Brown possessed exceptional pace, he was a Stawell Gift finalist in 1946, and was used on the wing when he started out at Carlton during the 1941 VFL season. In his second season Brown began playing as a key defender to fill the gap left by players who were serving in the war and was full-back in Carlton's 1945 premiership side, where he stood South Melbourne's star forward Laurie Nash. Brown was a half back flanker in Carlton's next premiership, playing most of the Grand Final on Essendon's leading player Dick Reynolds. A twisted ankle sustained in the 1948 VFL season prompted Brown to announce his retirement.
