Taylorville is an unincorporated community in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. Taylorville was once the home of the Columbian Institute, a preparatory school. The school was founded by Edward Tarrant, who while serving as superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County schools, joined Lumsden's Alabama Battery during the American Civil War. Area codes 205 and 659 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the western and central parts of the U.S. State of Alabama, including the cities of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Area code 205 was one of the original area codes created in 1947 when the NANP was placed in operation by AT&T. It encompassed the entire state, making Alabama one of 34 states served by a single numbering plan area. By the 1990s, 205 was on the brink of exhaustion due to the state's growth and the proliferation of cell phones and pagers. In 1995, area code 334 was created to serve the area from Montgomery southward. Fort Gaines (Alabama)
Fort Gaines is a historic fort on Dauphin Island, Alabama, United States. It was named for Edmund Pendleton Gaines. Established in 1821, it is best known for its role in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the American Civil War. Exhibits include the huge anchor from , Admiral David Farragut's flagship on which he gave his world-famous command, " Damn the torpedoes – full speed ahead!" The fort also has the original cannons used in the battle, five pre-Civil War brick buildings in the interior courtyard, operational blacksmith shop and kitchens, tunnel systems to the fortified corner bastions, and similar features. Ship Island (Mississippi)
Ship Island is a barrier island off the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, one of the Mississippi–Alabama barrier islands.
