Taungtha Township
Taungtha Township is a township of Myingyan District in the Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). Its principal town and administrative seat is Taungtha. The township covers an area of and as of 2014 it had a population of 216,399 people. History Now called Taungtha was a village under the Kyaukyit(Kyaukyin) as the name of Aingtha. Chauk
Chauk ( my, ချောက်) is a town and river port in Magway Region, north-central Myanmar (Burma), on the Irrawaddy River. It is located across the river from Seikphyu (ဆိပ်ဖြူ) and is connected by a bridge. August 2016 Myanmar Earthquake
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Myanmar west of Chauk on 24 August 2016 with a maximum Mercalli intensity of VI (''Strong''). It struck at 5:04 pm local time (10:34 UTC), and was centered in an isolated area. The estimated depth was 84.1 km. Tremors from the earthquake were felt in Yangon, in the eastern cities of Patna, Guwahati, and Kolkata in India, in Bangkok in Thailand and in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The Pyithu Hluttaw ( my, ပြည်သူ့ လွှတ်တော်, ; House of Representatives) is the ''de jure'' lower house of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, the bicameral legislature of Myanmar (Burma). It consists of 440 members, of which 330 are directly elected through the first-past-the-post system in each townships (the third-level administrative divisions of Myanmar), and 110 are appointed by the Myanmar Armed Forces. Aung Thaung ( my, အောင်သောင်း; 1 December 1940 – 23 July 2015) was a Burmese politician and businessman. He served as a member of the country's lower house, the Pyithu Hluttaw, representing the constituency of Taungtha Township, after being elected in the 2010 general election. Career Aung Thaung was born on 1 December 1940 in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Division, Burma. He graduated from Mandalay University in 1964 and subsequently became a teacher. He joined the army in 1964 and remained active in the military until 1993, when he became a deputy commerce minister. After serving in the army for several years, Aung Thaung served as the country's Ministry of Industry-1 from 1997 to 2011 and was known for his close ties to Than Shwe and Maung Aye. Tin Moe
U Tin Moe (; ) (1933-2007) was a Burmese poet. Early life Tin Moe (Maung Ba Gyan) was born in the village of Kanmyè in Taungtha Township, Myingyan, Mandalay Division. He received his early education at a Buddhist monastery, and attended school at the town of Yezagyo. His reputation preceded him when he went on to study at the University of Mandalay at the request of faculty members who had been impressed by an essay he wrote for the matriculation exam. He was already a published poet under the pen name ''Kan Myè'' Nan Myint Nwe in the ''Ludu Journal'' of Mandalay. Fame In 1956 Tin Moe collected his poems into a book titled ''Hpan Mee Ain'' ( en, The Lantern). It won him the National Literary Award for Poetry in 1959. He continued to write poems and essays, and became editor of poetry at the '' Ludu Daily'' in Mandalay. He also worked for a time as the editor of ''Pei Hpu Hlwar'' magazine.
