Target Earth (album)
''Target Earth'' is the thirteenth studio album, and the sixteenth release overall, by the Canadian heavy metal band Voivod, which was released on January 22, 2013. This is the first Voivod studio album to feature Daniel Mongrain on guitar (replacing the late Denis D'Amour) and the only one since 1991's ''Angel Rat'' with Jean-Yves Thériault on bass. Background After the 2005 death of Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, Voivod created two albums to realize the song ideas that he had left behind. With that material having been transformed into songs (as heard on ''Katorz'' and ''Infini''), Voivod did not know what its future would involve. However, the band eventually decided to continue provided that the band, according to Michel "Away" Langevin, could "preserve the Voivod essence" and keep "Piggy's spirit intact." Voivod (band)
Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Quebec (now Saguenay, Quebec). The original line-up consisted of vocalist Denis "Snake" Bélanger, guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and bassist Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault. The band has had numerous members changes throughout its -year career, with Langevin as the only remaining original member. Their current line-up consists of Langevin, Bélanger, Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain (guitar) and Dominic "Rocky" Laroche (bass). Voivod's musical style has changed several times since the band's origin in the early 1980s. Starting out as a speed metal band, Voivod have added a mix of progressive metal and thrash metal to create their own unique metal style. Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is an American musician who was the bassist of heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. He first performed with thrash metal band Flotsam and Jetsam from 1981 to 1986 before joining Metallica to succeed the deceased Cliff Burton. Newsted performed on the albums '' ...And Justice for All'' (1988), '' Metallica'' (1991), '' Load'' (1996), and '' Reload'' (1997), the most album appearances among Metallica's bassists. After leaving Metallica, Newsted was a member of metal bands Echobrain and Voivod, using the pseudonym Jasonic for the latter, and toured with Ozzy Osbourne. Killing Technology
''Killing Technology'' is the third studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Voivod. It was released in 1987 on Noise Records and was the first to combine elements of progressive rock in the band's thrash metal sound. According to interviews contemporary to the release of ''Killing Technology'', by 1986 Voivod were more influenced by hardcore punk and crossover bands than by other metal bands, with only Kreator and Motörhead still appreciated by all band members. Estimated sales are more than 60,000 copies worldwide. A music video was made for the song "Ravenous Medicine". According to a 1986 TV interview with the band, it sold over 40,000 copies within 2 years of its release. ''Nothingface'' is the fifth studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Voivod. It was released by Mechanic/MCA Records on 1989. The album marked a change for the band, expanding their music into a more progressive metal sound. Several riffs are heavily influenced by Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring", specifically the centre section of "Pre-Ignition". Critical reception ''Nothingface'' is Voivod's most successful album to date, and their only album to enter the ''Billboard'' 200 charts, where it peaked at number 114. A music video made for the album's third track, a cover of Pink Floyd's " Astronomy Domine", received airplay on MTV's ''Headbangers Ball''.
