Tamukkam Ground
Tamukkam Ground (Tamukkam maidanam) is located in Tallakulam in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Historically this ground was developed by Viswanatha Nayak, first king of the Madurai Nayak Dynasty, and Ariyanatha Mudaliyar and used for hosting royal entertainments, sports events and for display of martial arts. Experts in different martial arts such as silambu, sword fight, etc., used to display their prowess at this ground. Similarly, sports events such as horse race, bull-fight, elephant race, etc., were also organised here. This Ground also called as Gandhi Museum Ground since it is located near to the Gandhi Memorial Museum Madurai. Viswanatha Nayak
Viswanatha Nayak was the Vijayanagara viceroy to Madurai in south India during the 16th century. He later became the ruler of Madurai after the fall of the Vijayanagara empire. Gandhi Memorial Museum, established in 1959, is a memorial museum for Mahatma Gandhi located in the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, India. Known as Gandhi Museum, it is now one of the five Gandhi Sanghralayas (Gandhi Museums) in the country. It includes a part of the blood-stained garment worn by Gandhi when he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. Tamukkam Palace is a palace located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Literally the Tamil word ''Tamukkam'' (Tamil:தமுக்கம்) means summer house.
