Tamtam (rock Club)
TaMtAm (also written as Tamtam, tam-tam, or Тамтам) was an independent rock club in Saint Petersburg, founded in 1991 by Vsevolod Gakkel, the former cellist of Aquarium. TaMtAm was the first Western-style rock club in Saint Petersburg. History After traveling to the West and visiting intimate rock clubs in New York and San Francisco, Vsevolod Gakkel was inspired to open a similar venue in Saint Petersburg. In 1991, he founded TaMtAm in Vasilyevsky Island, Saint Petersburg. The club was situated in a former Communist Youth building and provided a small stage in a small room for bands to play on. The club premises were designed by the cult Saint Petersburg artist and tattoo artist Alexey Mikheev. For the first few months, concerts at TaMtAm were free. Chimera (also known as Deputat Baltiki) was a Russian underground rock band formed by singer/guitarist and lead-guitarist Gennady Bachinsky in St. Petersburg in 1990. Tequilajazzz is a Russian alternative rock band led by bassist Evgeny "Ai-yai-yai" Fedorov () based in Saint Petersburg. Spitfire is a ska band formed in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1993. Biography Spitfire started in the beginning of 1993, then as a garage rockabilly trio, whose music also included some elements of noise. Their first live gig took place during the St. Petersburg Psycho Festival in February 1993. The summer 1993 brought new ideas and Spitfire began to do more noise/garage, they decided to give up their double bass for an electric bass guitar. While searching for a new sound, they did a program based on covers of 1960's garage music. At the end of 1993, their music had turned into garage punk and finally into ska-core. Actually, ska had been one of their favourite styles and a big passion for a long time before they decided to play it themselves. Pilot (Russian Band)
Pilot, also known as PilOt (russian: Пилот, ПилОт) is a Russian rock band from Saint Petersburg, founded by Ilja Knabengof in 1997. History The roots of the band stretch back to 1994, at which point it was called Military Jane. In this incarnation, the band had a raw, melodic grunge style reminiscent of Alice In Chains, and featured Knabengof singing in English. Military Jane released three albums, "Home" (1995) "Home Live '95", and "Blackest Paint Colored Brush" (1996) with limited success. The band's single "Wherry?" although popular, was met with controversy and the music video was banned from MTV. During the "Rock '96" festival in Saint Petersburg, the band performed a new song "Мама" (Mama) for the first time. The style of the song took on a contrasting pop direction, with Knabengof finding an original singing voice. The next year, Military Jane's name was changed to Pilot.
