Taman Suropati
Taman Suropati or Suropati Park is a public park located in Menteng, Jakarta, Indonesia. The park is located in the center of Menteng and is the meeting point of three streets: Teuku Umar Street, Diponegoro Street, and Imam Bonjol Street. History The park is now an iconic landmark of Jakarta, was hill-shaped area. It was built by FJ Kubatz and FJL Gijshels under the direction of PAJ van Moojen, a Dutch architect. The then-mayor of Batavia, GJ Bisschop, who was in office from 1916 to 1920, built the park, which was then named Bisschopplein. The park was officially inaugurated in 1919. The park was built to avoid traffic jam in around the court. The soil that was excavated to level the hilly slope dumped to Besuki Street. In 1920, the court started the transformation to be a park by the planting of trees and flowers. Across the park, there was Logegebouw (now Bappenas building). Menteng
Menteng is the south-central district of Central Jakarta, one of the administrative municipalities in the capital city Jakarta, Indonesia. The nexus of its heritage is the Menteng neighbourhood (Project), a new urban design developed mainly in the 1910s as a residential area for Indo-Dutch people, the upper middle class, and high officials. At that time it was the first garden suburb in colonial Batavia. Today, the area is considered as one of the most expensive neighborhoods due to its close proximity to the Golden Triangle an agglomeration of Jakarta's three main financial districts. Untung Suropati also Untung Surapati (1660 – December 5, 1706) was an Indonesia war fighter who led a few rebellions against the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Some of his exploits were written in Babad Tanah Jawi. Early life Surapati was born Surawiraaji, a Balinese. According to Buleleng sources he was the son of the general for kingdom of Swecalinggarsa-pura Gelgel. After some conflict, his father alongside loyal followers sought refuge in Marga Tabanan village. Surapati, at the time four years old, was separated from the entourage when crossing Ayung river. He was bought by VOC Captain van Beber in Bali market. Surapati then lived as a slave in Batavia, the headquarters of the VOC (now Jakarta).
