Tallygaroopna () is a town in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. The town is on the Goulburn Valley Highway in the City of Greater Shepparton local government area, north of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Tallygaroopna had a population of 600. History The large Tallygaroopna station was established in the 1840s by Edward Khull and two years later was sold to Sherbourne Sheppard, who later lent his name to the nearby city of Shepparton. The station was broken up for closer settlement in the 1870s, the Post Office opening on 7 December 1875. The Tallygaroopna Railway Station Post Office opened on 17 October 1881, and was later renamed as Tallygaroopna and Tallygaroopna renamed as Tallygaroopna West. Electoral District Of Shepparton
The electoral district of Shepparton is a rural Lower House electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Northern Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. The electoral district of Shepparton covers an area of 3,289 square kilometres. Shepparton includes the country towns of Ardmona, Barmah, Congupna, Dookie, Katunga, Kialla, Mooroopna, Nathalia, Picola, Shepparton, Strathmerton, Tallygaroopna, Tatura and Toolamba. The district also includes the Barmah National Park. It is a rich agricultural area with orchards, vineyards and dairy farms. The Kyabram District Football League (KDL) is an Australian rules football league in Victoria. It is made up of 15 teams; the most recent additions include Dookie United in 2018 and Shepparton East in 2019. The KDL is made up of smaller country town football clubs in the Goulburn Valley. Goulburn Valley Railway Line, Victoria
The Tocumwal railway line (also known as the Shepparton line) is a gauge railway line in Victoria, Australia. The line runs between the border town of Tocumwal in New South Wales to Southern Cross, Melbourne. The line is utilised by various passenger and freight trains serving the northern suburbs of Melbourne and northern regions of Victoria. History The Melbourne and Essendon Railway Company opened the first section of the Tocumwal railway line from North Melbourne to Essendon in 1860. Following its take over by the Victorian Government in 1867, the line was extended to Tallarook and Mangalore in 1872. A line was built from Mangalore to Toolamba and Shepparton in 1880 and extended to Numurkah in 1881, Strathmerton in 1905 and connecting with the New South Wales Government Railways at Tocumwal at a break-of-gauge in 1908.
