Tallinn Music High School
Tallinn Music High School ( et, Tallinna Muusikakeskkool) is a special music high school in Tallinn, Estonia. History TMHS was founded in 1961 to ensure a sufficient number of quality applicants to the Tallinn State Conservatory (now Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre). It has successfully fulfilled its goal, as 80-100% of graduates continue their studies at EAMT or at other music academies abroad. TMHS is the only school in Estonia that provides a professional music education alongside the general primary and secondary curriculum. This system prepares students for a career in music or in any other field. There are 38 senior teachers and 23 teachers on staff with qualifications to teach at the university level. Tallinn
Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. Situated on a bay in north Estonia, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, Tallinn has a population of 437,811 (as of 2022) and administratively lies in the Harju ''maakond'' (county). Mikk Murdvee
Mikk Murdvee (born March 20, 1980) is an Estonian-Finnish Conductor (music), conductor and violinist living in Helsinki, Finland. Education Mikk Murdvee was born in Tallinn. He studied violin in Tallinn Music High School (1986–1998), Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Sibelius Academy (1999–2005), graduating from the latter with highest possible marks. Kalle Randalu
Kalle Randalu (born 25 November 1956) is an Estonian pianist. Randalu was born in Tallinn, and trained at the Moscow Conservatory under Lev Vlassenko. In 1981-82 Randalu was awarded two competition prizes: he shared the VII Tchaikovsky Competition's 4th prize with Dmitri Gaiduk; and shared the VIII Schumann Competition's 3rd prize with Balázs Szokolay. He subsequently won the 1985 ARD Competition in Munich, and settled in Germany in 1988. He is a professor at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and an honorary doctor of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Randalu has performed internationally. Sten Lassmann (born 26 May 1982) is an Estonian pianist trained at the Tallinn Music High School, the Estonian Academy of Music, the Conservatoire de Paris and the Royal Academy of Music best known for his work on Heino Eller's music. Arvo Volmer
Arvo Volmer (born November 4, 1962 in Tallinn) is an Estonian conductor. Volmer was principal conductor of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 2001. From 2004 to 2013 he was Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and in 2014 was appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor. The ''Adelaide Review'' wrote that Volmer's tenure as Chief Conductor saw the orchestra "improve out of all proportion and enter an unprecedented period of ascendancy". Elmo Tiisvald
Elmo Tiisvald (born 13 June 1967) is an Estonian conductor born in Tallinn. He started his music studies at the Tallinn Music High School in the violin class of Tiiu Peäske and continued his studies, violin with Lemmo Erendi and choral conducting with Enn Oja, at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music School. He has been involved at the Estonian Boys Choir for many years as a choir singer and soloist. Anu Tali
Anu Tali (born June 18, 1972) is an Estonian conductor. Life and career Tali was born in Tallinn. Her mother Anne Tali is a prominent mathematician. Her twin sister Kadri Tali is also a conductor and the director of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. She started her musical training as a pianist, and graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 1991. She continued her studies in the Estonian Music Academy as a conductor with Kuno Areng, Toomas Kapten and Roman Matsov.
