''Talamancaheros'' is a genus of cichlid fish found in fast- and moderately-flowing rivers on the Pacific slope of the Talamanca mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama. ''Talamancaheros'' reaches up to in standard length. Species and taxonomy Before the genus ''Talamancaheros'' was recognized, these species had been placed in several other genera, including ''Cichlasoma'', '' Heros'', ''Theraps'', ''Tomocichla'' and others, but they are not particularly closely related to any of these. ''Tomocichla'' is a genus of cichlid fish native to moderately and fast-flowing rivers along the Atlantic slope of Central America, ranging from the Escondido drainage in Nicaragua to Bocas del Toro in Panama. Theraps
''Theraps'' is a genus of cichlid fish found in moderately to fast-flowing rivers and streams on the Atlantic slope of southern Mexico and northern Central America. They are medium-sized cichlids. Species and taxonomy Historically, ''Theraps'' was included in ''Cichlasoma''. Once recognized as its own genus, it sometimes included a wide range of species now known to belong in other genera, including ''Cincelichthys'', '' Chortiheros'', ''Chuco'', ''Cryptoheros'', ''Kihnichthys'', '' Oscura'', ''Paraneetroplus'', ''Rheoheros'', ''Talamancaheros'', ''Tomocichla'' and ''Wajpamheros''. ''Heros'' is a genus of cichlids native to the Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo River basins in South America.Staeck, W. & Schindler, I. (2015): Description of a new ''Heros'' species (Teleostei, Cichlidae) from the Rio Orinoco drainage and notes on ''Heros severus'' Heckel, 1840. ''Bulletin of Fish Biology, 15 (1/2): 121-136.'' They were previously included in the genus ''Cichlasoma'' before its restriction to the distinct group of "Port Cichlids." The ''Heros'' species most commonly encountered in the aquarium trade are fish referable to the species ''Heros efasciatus''. However, the trade name generally used is "Severum Cichlids." Trade fish are very often line bred specimens of color sports such as "Super Red Severums" or "Gold Severums." Rudolf Kner
Rudolf Ignaz Kner (24 August 1810 – 27 October 1869) was an Austrian geologist, paleontologist, zoologist and ichthyologist. He also wrote some poems which were published by his brother-in-law K.A. Kaltenbrunner. Biography Kner was born in Linz where his father Johann Evangelist Georg Kner (1763-1845) was a tax officer. His mother Barbara (1770-1825), daughter of forester Johann von Adlersburg was earlier married to apothecary Felix Gulielmo until his death. Barbara had a daughter Marie Gulielmo from her earlier marriage before having Rudolf and his sister Pauline. Pauline Anna Barbara Kner (1809-1843) married the Austrian poet Karl Adam Kaltenbrunner (1804-1867) in 1834. Rudolf studied in the secondary school in Linz from 1818 and the high school from 1821. The genus was previously very large (a wastebasket taxon), including cichlids from North America, including Central America, and South America. Reclassification and subsequent splitting of the genus by Sven O.
