Taiwan Theater Museum
The Taiwan Theater Museum () is a museum about theatre in Yilan City, Yilan County, Taiwan. The museum is dedicated to Taiwan's theatrical arts and operas. It is the first public theater museum in Taiwan and the first museum established in Yilan County. The museum is managed by the Ministry of Culture. History Starting from its early planning stage in 1986, the Council for Cultural Affairs appointed a professor from Chinese Culture University (CCU) to head the planning stage for the museum under the supervision of the council. The museum was finally opened on 21 April 1990. Upon its establishment, the museum was originally named the Taiwanese Opera Information Center due to its original focus on Taiwanese opera. Later, knowing that Yilan had a valuable collection of puppet theater resources, the museum was subsequently expanded to include puppet theater in its scope and was renamed the Taiwan Drama Center. Yilan City
Yilan City (Mandarin pinyin: ''Yílán Shì''; Hokkien POJ: ''Gî-lân-chhī'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Yilan County, Taiwan Province, Republic of China. The city lies on the north side of the Lanyang River. History The Yilan Plain in which the city is located has historically been referred to as Kapalan (), Kapsulan (; also 甲子蘭), Komalan (), etc. These names, as well as that of Yilan itself, were given to the sites by the Kavalan tribe of Taiwanese aborigines. Later arrivals included Han Chinese settlers during the Qing Dynasty in China (1802) and settlers from Okinawa during Taiwan's Japanese era (1895-1945). Yilan County, alternately spelled I-lan, is a County (Taiwan), county in northeastern Taiwan, Republic of China. Name The name ''Yilan'' derives from the Taiwanese indigenous peoples, indigenous Kavalan people. Other former names in reference to this area in the Yilan Plain include ''Kabalan'', ''Kavalan'', ''Kavaland'', ''kap-a-lan'', ''Yiland'' and ''Gilan''. The Chinese Culture University (CCU; ) is a private Taiwanese university located in Yangmingshan in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan. CCU was established in 1962 and is one of the largest universities in Taiwan with an enrollment of about 32,000 students. Taiwanese opera () commonly known as Ke-Tse opera or Hokkien opera, is a form of traditional drama originating in Taiwan. Taiwanese opera uses a stylised combination of both the literary and colloquial registers of Taiwanese Hokkien. Its earliest form adopted elements of folk songs from Zhangzhou, Fujian, China. Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) is a railway operator in Taiwan.
