Taitung Forest Park
Taitung Forest Park () is a park at Taitung City, Taitung County, Taiwan. Name The park is nicknamed the ''Black Forest'' by the local residents due to its immense dark beefwood trees. History On 18 February 2021, an unmanned aerial vehicle belonged to National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology which took off from Chihhang Air Base crash landed at the park. Geology The park has an area of 280 hectares, which consists of lakes, one of them is Pipa Lake. The lake is the habitat for aquatic animals and plants. There are also viewing platform and cabin for waterfowl viewing, as well as other activities such as walking or cycling along the bike trail. Taitung City () is a county-administered city and the county seat of Taitung County, Taiwan. It lies on the southeast coast of Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. Chihhang Air Base
Chihhang Air Base, also known as Taitung Air Force Base, is a military airport operated by the Republic of China Air Force in Taitung County, Taiwan. It is best known for its extensive underground hangars. History In 2018 the Air Force issued a solicitation for an automated CIWS system to add an additional layer of protection to Chihhang Air Base. It has been named as the likely home for two squadrons of F-16Vs Taiwan will acquire from the US starting in 2023. The location was recommended by the Institute for National Defense and Security Research. Taitung Railway Station
Taitung () is a railway station of Taiwan Railways Administration. It lies at the junction of the Hualien-Taitung line and the South-link line in Taitung City, Taitung County, Taiwan. History During the construction work of the back part of Taitung Station in 1980, a historic settlement area was discovered when graveyard containing several thousand slate coffins was unearthed, with some bodies still laid within. Around 20,000 pieces of jade, pottery and stone tools were also found. This had caught the attention of the government to carry out archaeological work and build a national museum to preserve the artifacts. The area officially opened in 1997 as the Beinan Cultural Park.
