Taito Phillip Field
Taito Phillip Hans Field (26 September 1952 – 23 September 2021) was a Samoan-born New Zealand trade unionist and politician. A Member of Parliament (MP) for South Auckland electorates from 1993 to 2008, Field was the first New Zealand MP of Pacific Island descent. He was a minister outside Cabinet in a Labour-led government from 2003 to 2005. Following charges of bribery and perverting the course of justice, Field was defeated in the 2008 New Zealand general election. He was found guilty on some of the charges in August 2009 and was sentenced to six years jail in October 2009. Early life Born in Apia, the capital of what was then the Territory of Western Samoa, he gained the name of ''Taito'', the '' matai'' (paramount chief) title of the village of Manase on Savai'i, Samoa, in 1975. New Zealand Pacific Party
The New Zealand Pacific Party was a Christianity, Christian political party that existed in New Zealand from 2008 to 2010. The party was founded as a vehicle for former New Zealand Labour Party, Labour MP Taito Phillip Field, who was subsequently convicted for bribery and corruption. It aimed to represent Pacific Island communities within New Zealand, and support Christian and "family values" and social justice. Formation Field became an MP in 1993 for the New Zealand Labour Party, Labour party, originally for the Otara (New Zealand electorate), Otara electorate then, when that seat was abolished in 1996, for Māngere (New Zealand electorate), Māngere. The Service & Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota (SFWU) was a trade union in New Zealand. It was affiliated with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions and the New Zealand Labour Party.
