Taipei Representative Office In The U.K.
The Taipei Representative Office in the UK (TRO; ) is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the United Kingdom (UK). It is not a fully-fledged embassy owing to the ongoing Taiwan dispute and One-China policy. However, it is the highest-level representation of the ROC government in the United Kingdom. It manages cultural, economic and political cooperation between the UK and the ROC, as well as offering consular services. Its counterpart body in Taiwan is the British Office Taipei. History The Republic of China's former diplomatic mission to the UK was the Chinese Embassy, inherited from the former Qing Empire. After the Chinese Civil War of 1949, for a short time the UK continued to recognise the government of Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China, before switching recognition to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1950. Grosvenor Gardens, London
Grosvenor Gardens is the name given to two triangular parks in Belgravia, London, faced on their western and eastern sides by streets of the same name. Both roads run roughly north to south from Hobart Place and Grosvenor Place to Buckingham Palace Road, and is entirely the A3215. Liu Chih-kung () is a Taiwanese diplomat. Early life Liu obtained his bachelor's degree in diplomacy from National Chengchi University in 1972. He then continued his study in the same university and obtained his master's degree and doctoral degree in political science in 1975 and 1983 respectively. Career Liu was Taiwanese representative to Mongolia until 2008, when he was moved to the Czech Republic. By May 2010, Liu became the deputy secretary-general of the National Security Council. Shen Lyu-shun (; 12 November 1949 – 6 January 2023) was a Taiwanese diplomat who served at posts in the United States and Europe. He also served in the Department of North American Affairs in the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was best known as serving as the representative of the Republic of China to the United States from 2014 to 2016. Katharine Chang (; born 12 February 1953) is a Taiwanese diplomat. Early life Chang obtained her bachelor's degree from the Department of Diplomacy of National Chengchi University. She then obtained her master's degree in international relations from Long Island University in the United States. Career Chang began her diplomatic career in 1976. In January 1995, she was named leader of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, and became the first woman to serve as a representative of Taiwan. In 1997, Chang was appointed Taiwan's first woman ambassador when she accepted a post to St Kitts and Nevis and Dominica. Upon succeeding Henry Chen as director-general of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Chang became the Ministry of Foreign Affairs first spokeswoman. Edgar Lin Chun-yi (; born 23 July 1938) is a Taiwanese biologist, environmentalist, diplomat and politician. Early life and career Lin studied English at National Taiwan University and earned a Ph.D in ecology from the University of Indiana. He remained in the United States for a time, working as a research fellow for the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology. After his return to Taiwan, Lin taught at Tunghai University. Lin began participating in Taiwan's environmental movement in the 1980s. He became known as a "godfather" of the cause and was a noted anti-nuclear activist, later serving Greenpeace Taiwan as its president. Tien Hung-mao
Tien Hung-mao (; born 7 November 1938) is a Taiwanese politician. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 20 May 2000 until 1 February 2002. Career Tien received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1969, where he wrote his dissertation on political development in China from 1927 to 1937. Thereafter he was a university professor for more than twenty years, and naturalised as a U.S. citizen. After he moved back to Taiwan, Lee Teng-hui had asked him twice in the 1990s to serve in the Executive Yuan Council, but each time he refused; reportedly, the requirement that he renounce U.S. citizenship was a major barrier.
