Taipei International Book Exhibition
The Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE; ) is a book fair organized by the Taipei Book Fair Foundation and supervised by the Government Information Office. It was established on 15 December 1987 at the National Central Library and focused on distribution and copyright negotiations between international publishers. The second show was held two years later at the Taipei World Trade Center, which has remained its venue since. In 1998, the fair switched from a bi-annual to an annual schedule, and is now held every February. Attendance to the event has continued to increase, making the Taipei International Book Exhibition the largest book fair in Asia. The book fair is currently the fourth largest in the world, behind the Frankfurt Book Fair, BookExpo America (BEA), and the Bologna Children's Book Fair. The Government Information Office, Executive Yuan (GIO; ) was a cabinet-level agency of the Executive Yuan of Taiwan (the Republic of China) in charge of promoting government policies and regulating domestic media. History In April 1947, the Republic of China government completed all preparations for the implementation of constitutional rule and made the transition from the stage of political suzerainty to that of constitutional government. All ministries, commissions and councils under the Executive Yuan were expanded, and on 23 April, the Executive Yuan created the Government Information Office and agencies for health, irrigation and land affairs. The GIO was formally inaugurated in Nanking on 2 May 1947, and the Department of International Publicity, originally under the Ministry of Information of the Kuomintang, was placed under it. Central News Agency (Taiwan)
The Central News Agency (CNA) is a government-controlled news agency in Taiwan. In addition to its Chinese language edition, it also has English and Japanese editions. It has a 300-strong employee base, and overseas branches in some 30 countries. It works with a number of well-known news agencies around the world, such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, and Agence France-Presse. National Central Library
The National Central Library (NCL; ) is the national library of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan), which is located at No. 20, Zhongshan S. Rd., Zhongzheng District, Taipei City 10001, Taiwan. The Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC; ) was inaugurated in January 1986 by Taiwan's foremost trade promotion organization, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), to provide a single, modern venue that would combine exhibition space, conference facilities, offices, and hotel accommodation for international business. Frankfurt Book Fair
The Frankfurt Book Fair (German: Frankfurter Buchmesse, FBM) is the world's largest trade fair for books, based on the number of publishing companies represented. It is considered to be the most important book fair in the world for international deals and trading. The five-day annual event in mid-October is held at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The first three days are restricted exclusively to professional visitors; the general public attend the fair on the weekend. BookExpo America
BookExpo America (commonly referred to within the book publishing industry as BEA) was an annual book trade fair in the United States. BEA is almost always held in a major city over four days in late May and/or early June. Nearly all significant book publishers in the United States, and many from abroad, have booths and exhibits at BEA, and use the fair as an opportunity to showcase upcoming titles, sell current books, socialize with colleagues from other publishing houses, and sell and buy subsidiary rights and international rights. Authors, librarians, and buyers for book retailers also attend the event. Bologna Children's Book Fair
The Bologna Children's Book Fair or La fiera del libro per ragazzi is the leading professional fair for children's books in the world. Since 1963, it is held yearly for four days in March or April in Bologna, Italy. It is the meeting place for all professionals involved with creating and publishing children's books, and is mainly used for the buying and selling of rights, both for translations and for derived products like movies or animated series. It is also the event where a number of major awards are given, the BolognaRagazzi Awards, in four categories (Fiction, Non-fiction, New Horizons (for the non-Western world) and Opera Prima (for first works). Messe Frankfurt () is the world's largest trade fair, congress and event organizer with its own exhibition grounds. A trade fair, also known as trade show, trade exhibition, or trade exposition, is an exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products and services, meet with industry partners and customers, study activities of rivals, and examine recent market trends and opportunities. In contrast to consumer fairs, only some trade fairs are open to the public, while others can only be attended by company representatives (members of the trade, e.g. professionals) and members of the press, therefore trade shows are classified as either "public" or "trade only". A few fairs are hybrids of the two; one example is the Frankfurt Book Fair, which is trade only for its first three days and open to the general public on its final two days.
