Tahiti National Badminton Team
The Tahiti national badminton team (french: Équipe nationale de badminton de Tahiti; ty, Te pupu ma'iti badminton no te fenua Tahiti) represents French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France, in international badminton team competitions. The Tahitian team has competed in the Oceania Badminton Championships since 2014. The men's team achieved third place three times in the team tournament while the mixed team won bronze in the 2014 Oceania Badminton Championships. In 2021, the Tahitian men's and women's team would make their debuts onto the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup when they qualified for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup finals after the withdrawal of the Australian team and New Zealand declining the invitation. The team were also invited to compete in the 2021 Sudirman Cup. The team was eliminated in the group stages. Tahiti also competes in the Pacific Mini Games. 2021 Sudirman Cup
The 2021 Sudirman Cup (officially known as the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2021 for sponsorship reasons) was the 17th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Vantaa, Finland, between 26 September and 3 October 2021. China were the defending champions. They successfully defended their title, lifting the trophy for a record-extending 12th time. Host city selection Originally the Badminton World Federation awarded Suzhou, China to host the tournament back in November 2018, but due to the strict restrictions from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was too hard to conduct tournaments in China in 2021. The final set of ''ties'' (team matches) were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Indonesia won its fourth title after beating Malaysia in the Final Round. 1967 Thomas Cup
The 1967 Thomas Cup was the seventh tournament of Thomas Cup, the most important men's badminton team competition in the world. The inter-zone matches and Challenge Round finale were held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Malaysia won its fourth title after beating Indonesia in the Challenge Round under unusual circumstances. With Malaysia leading Indonesia 4 matches to 3 in the best of nine series, play was suspended during the eighth match due to unruly crowd behavior (see ''Challenge round'' below). This contest was noteworthy for other reasons as well: the old met the new. Indonesia's Rudy Hartono, not yet 18, burst onto the scene as did other new stars such as Denmark's Svend Andersen (Pri) and Japan's Ippei Kojima.
