1967 Thomas Cup
The 1967 Thomas Cup was the seventh tournament of Thomas Cup, the most important men's badminton team competition in the world. The inter-zone matches and Challenge Round finale were held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Malaysia won its fourth title after beating Indonesia in the Challenge Round under unusual circumstances. With Malaysia leading Indonesia 4 matches to 3 in the best of nine series, play was suspended during the eighth match due to unruly crowd behavior (see ''Challenge round'' below). This contest was noteworthy for other reasons as well: the old met the new. Indonesia's Rudy Hartono, not yet 18, burst onto the scene as did other new stars such as Denmark's Svend Andersen (Pri) and Japan's Ippei Kojima. It was the last Thomas Cup, and a sad exit, for Hartono's teammate Ferry Sonneville who was more than twice Hartono's age. Istora Gelora Bung Karno
Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace ( id, Istana Olahraga Gelora Bung Karno, abbreviated as ''Istora''), the formerly name ''Istora Senayan'' is an indoor sporting arena located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, Indonesia. The capacity of the arena after 2018 reopening is 7,166. This arena is usually used for badminton tournaments. Its maiden event was the 1961 Thomas Cup. It was also used during the 1962 Asian Games and was renovated to host the 2018 edition. Its first post-renovation event was the 2018 Indonesia Masters. During the latter Games, it hosted the badminton and later stages of basketball events. The arena originally was planned to stage the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and becoming the only Indonesian venue in the three-country joint bid but was moved to a newly-built arena inside the complex. Thailand National Badminton Team
The national badminton team of Thailand ( th, แบดมินตันทีมชาติไทย) represents Thailand in international Badminton competitions. It is managed by the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT). The team took a semifinalist in the 2013, 2017 and 2019 Sudirman Cup, the best finish by any team outside the biggest Badminton country, Indonesia, South Korea, China and Denmark. Tan Aik Huang
Tan Aik Huang (, born 14 February 1946) is a retired Malaysian badminton player noted for his footwork and patience. He is the elder brother of Tan Aik Mong. Career In 1966 he won men's singles at the All England Open Badminton Championships, then considered the unofficial World Badminton Championships, defeating Japan's Masao Akiyama in the finals. This came during a run of four straight appearances in the All England finals from 1965 through 1968. He lost hard-fought matches to Erland Kops in '65 and '67 and to Rudy Hartono in '68. Tan was a member of four Malaysian Thomas Cup (men's international) teams including its world champion team of 1967. He won numerous major international singles titles during the mid- and late 1960s including the Danish Open, the US Open, the Canadian Open, and the Malaysian Open. Henning Borch
Henning Borch is a former world class badminton player from Denmark who won major tournaments from the early 1960s to the early 1970s. In the 1964 Borch reached the men's singles final at the prestigious All-England Championships, narrowly losing to fellow countryman Knud Aage Nielsen. It is controlled by the nation's governing body of badminton, Badminton Canada. The team's best result was achieving two semifinal finishes in both Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup.
