Tahira Abdullah
Tahira Abdullah (Urdu: طاہرہ عبداللہ, Born: c, 1953 - ) is a Pakistani human rights activist, women's rights activist, social scientist and supporter of gender equality. She is based in Islamabad. In 2009, Abdullah was arrested in Islamabad during her participation in the movement for the restoration of an independent Judiciary. Abdullah works on a voluntary basis for numerous trusts, civil society organisations, non-profits, policy groups, and academic bodies. She is a strong supporter of extremism-free education and easy access for women from rural areas. As a strong supporter of women's rights she always raise her voice against all kinds of gender violence. Topics on which she has spoken included “opening up spaces for human rights defenders”, in response to the murder of Rashid Rehman (lawyer for Junaid Hafeez) in 2014. Rashid Rehman
Rashid Rehman (13 October 1958 – 7 May 2014) was a prominent Pakistani lawyer and a regional coordinator for the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP). He was well known for his work with clients who were poor or who were charged under Pakistan's vigorous blasphemy laws A blasphemy law is a law prohibiting blasphemy, which is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Junaid Hafeez
Junaid Hafeez is a former M. Phil English student at a Pakistani university where he was teaching as visiting teacher as well. He was convicted of blasphemy under Pakistan's broad blasphemy laws and sentenced to death. Arrested in 2013, Hafeez was accused of making derogatory comments about the prophet of Islam, Muhammad on social media. Held in solitary confinement since 2014, his trial was repeatedly delayed, and Hafeez's first lawyer, Rashid Rehman, was murdered. In December 2019, Hafeez was convicted and sentenced to death by a Pakistani court. His detention and arrest have been condemned by human rights groups..
