Tahir Yunis oghlu Aliyev ( az, Tahir Yunis oğlu Əliyev ) was the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic and Chairman of State Customs Committee. Career Aliyev's first political appointment was with ''Defense Council of Azerbaijan Republic'' created on September 29, 1991 on orders of President of Azerbaijan Ayaz Mutalibov in order to ensure security and defense of Azerbaijan. He was among 8 members of the council who were to assist in state security issues. On December 25, 1991 he was appointed Chief of Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs for Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of General Major and appointed Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Republic on February 24, 1992 at the time of escalation of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War and two days before the Khojaly Massacre. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces ( az, Azərbaycan Silahlı Qüvvələri) were re-established according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Armed Forces from 9 October 1991. Garadaghly Massacre
The Capture of Garadaghly ( az, Qaradağlının işğalı) was the seizure of Garadaghly, an Azerbaijani-populated village in Khojavend district of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian volunteer units on 17 February 1992, in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Preceding events In the spring and summer of 1991, the violence during the First Nagorno-Karabakh war escalated into a partisan-style conflict between villages as raids were made and hostages were taken. In one of these events, six Azerbaijani villagers were killed in one attack by Armenian fighters in Garadaghly. Attack The assault began at 5am on 17 February 1992. The battle continued for 11 hours and resulted in the capture of Garadaghly by Armenian troops. Arabo and Aramo units, and Monte Melkonian's units took part in the operation. The Capture of Gushchular and Malibeyli was an incident in which eight ethnic Azerbaijani civilians were killed by Armenian irregular armed units in simultaneous attacks on the villages of Malibeyli, Ashaghi Gushchular, and Yukhari Gushchular in the Shusha District of Azerbaijan, on February 10–12, 1992 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Krkjan ( hy, Քրքջան) or Karkijahan ( az, Kərkicahan) is a settlement near the city of Stepanakert. The village had an Armenian-majority population prior to the Khaibalikend massacre in 1919 and subsequently an Azerbaijani-majority population prior to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1988. History Pre-Soviet period In 1886, the village had an Armenian-majority population, consisting entirely of farmers. Tajaddin Mehdiyev ( az, Tacəddin Mehdiyev) was the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan and is the Chairman of Committee for Protection of Rights of Officers in Azerbaijan.
