Tage Åsén
Tage Åsén (born 1943) is a Swedish graphic artist and painter. He works in a technique which has been described by art critics as super-realistic or hyper-realistic. The motif in his paintings is a critical "social surrealism" that is predicated on a dark and wry humour. His paintings have been used as covers for a number of books and music albums since his first exhibition (1968). Most notable among these is perhaps the covers for the Swedish rock group Samla Mammas Manna, ranging from " Måltid" (1972) to "Dear Mamma" (2002). He also made the book cover paintings of " De heliga geograferna" (1973) and " Guddöttrarna" (1975), the first two novels about Sunne by the Swedish writer Göran Tunström. 2018 Tage Åsén exhibits at Mårbacka Mårbacka is a manor house in Sunne Municipality in Värmland, Sweden. Surrealism
Surrealism is a cultural movement that developed in Europe in the aftermath of World War I in which artists depicted unnerving, illogical scenes and developed techniques to allow the unconscious mind to express itself. Its aim was, according to leader André Breton, to "resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super-reality", or ''surreality.'' It produced works of painting, writing, theatre, filmmaking, photography, and other media. Works of Surrealism feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and '' non sequitur''. Samla Mammas Manna was a Swedish progressive rock band often characterized by virtuosic musicianship, circus references and silly humour, similar in many ways to the song-writing style of Frank Zappa. They were one of the founding members of the Rock in Opposition (RIO) movement in the late 1970s. In 1979 they were Fred Frith's backing band on his solo album, ''Gravity'' (1980). Musically, they bore a resemblance to the Canterbury scene. The original line-up was Lars Hollmer (keyboards), Hasse Bruniusson (drums), Lars Krantz (bass) and Henrik Öberg (percussion). For '' Måltid'', jazz fusion guitarist Coste Apetrea joined the group. They were on the fringe of the Swedish political "progg" movement, although their lyrics were humorous and not explicitly political. Sunne, Sweden
Sunne is a locality and the seat of Sunne Municipality, Värmland County, Sweden with 10,000 inhabitants in 2010. The town straddles the sound connecting Övre Fryken (Northern lake) with Mellan-Fryken (Middle lake). The name of Sunne is derived from the Swedish word of 'sund' for a maritime sound. Printing and packaging are significant industries in Sunne. The companies Tetra Pak and Miller Graphics have facilities in the town and the local college provides a specialist course in printing technology. In the summer there is a large music festival. The painter Tage Åsén who made the cover paintings for two of his books about Sunne and who currently is working on his project about Sunne called Brobytornet (the Broby Tower). Göran Tunström
Göran Tunström (14 May 1937 in Borgvik, Grums Municipality – 5 February 2000 in Stockholm) was a Swedish author. He grew up in Sunne, Värmland County. Tunström's style is personal and intimate, and has a clear autobiographical tone. Although active as an established author for nearly four decades, it was particularly after his '' Juloratoriet'' (The Christmas Oratorio) was adapted as a movie in 1996 that he became widely known to the (Swedish) public. He participated in the Oslo International Poetry Festival. He was married to artist Lena Cronqvist, and was the father of theatre and film director Linus Tunström.
