Taekwondo In The Philippines
Taekwondo was introduced to the Philippines through the efforts of Kim Bok Man and Young Man Park. Grand Master Kim Bok Man arrived in 1970 to continue Park's legacy of propagating Taekwondo upon the invitation of President Marcos. Kim continued to pioneer Taekwondo worldwide and left the Philippines in 1971. In 1975, Grand Master Hong Sung-chon came to the Philippines to promote Taekwondo, eventually establishing the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA). The current central headquarters of the PTA is at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. The PTA is a member of the Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Federation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Asian Taekwondo Union. The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. Arnold Ilagan Atienza (; born September 29, 1972), also known as Ali Atienza, is a politician, athlete, and newscaster in the Philippines. He was the Presidential Adviser on Youth Affairs from 2005 to 2007 and was concurrently the head of the Manila sports development office and inner city development program from 2001 to 2007. He is the youngest of two sons of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, the other being weatherman Kim Atienza. Bea Lucero
Beatriz Lucero-Lhuillier, born Beatriz Lucero and more popularly known as Bea Lucero, is a Filipino former athlete and Olympian. She won a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in taekwondo, a demonstration sports at the Games. Lucero graduated from International School Manila in 1991. Before switching to Taekwondo, Bea was an artistic gymnast. She won 2 golds & 3 silver during the 1987 Southeast Asian Games held in Jakarta. Bea failed to make the team to the 1988 Seoul Olympics because of sports politics. Instead she joined the Philippine Delegation to Seoul to cover the gymnastics event. Col. Antonio "Jeff" De Lara Tamayo was the chef-de-mission of the Philippine delegate to 27th SEA Games in Myanmar in 2013. Manuel Monsour Tabib del Rosario III (born May 11, 1965) is a Filipino actor, martial artist, producer, and politician. He is popularly known as a Filipino taekwondo champion and actor who starred in several Filipino and international action films. He is the Secretary General of the Philippine Taekwondo Association and a member of the Philippine Olympic National Sports Association Martial Arts Council. He has also served as a city councilor representing the 1st district of Makati from 2010 to 2016 and later as congressman representing the same district from 2016 to 2019. Elmer Pato
Elmer Pato (died July 16, 2020) was a Filipino taekwondo practitioner and sports executive who represented the Philippines in international competitions. Background Pato is a recognized pioneer of the Philippine Taekwondo Association, having served as chairman for the national sports association's regional affairs. Pato competed at the 1976 Asian Championships in Melbourne, Australia where he clinched a bronze medal. He also served as an instructor and coach when Taekwondo was in its infancy in the country.
