Tacoronte
Tacoronte is a city and municipality of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. It is located in the north-east of the island. Mostly rural, the municipality stretches for 30 square kilometers from the volcanic peaks that rise in the center of the island to the Atlantic shore. The municipality seat, also called Tacoronte, lies about 16 km west of the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Old manorial houses and farms are situated here, as well as vineyards that produce the wine known as ''Tacoronte-Acentejo''. The TF-5 motorway passes through the municipality. The Tenerife North Airport is 4 km to the east. Tacoronte is a toponym of Guanche origin, believed to be derived from ''Tagoror'', meaning "place where the Council of Elders meets". Its territory constituted an ancient ''menceyato'', as the Guanche kingdoms were known, ruled by the mencey Acaymo. Acaymo
Acaimo or Acaymo was a Guanche ''mencey'' of Tacoronte, on the island of Tenerife at the time of the Spanish conquest in the 15th century. He formed an alliance against the Spaniards with the ''mencey'' Beneharo and the ''mencey'' Bencomo. Biography Family and Descendancy Acaimo descended from the first ''mencey'' of Tacoronte, who was called "Rumén" or "Romén" by Juan Núñez de la Peña. During the division of the island, which occurred after the death of his father, Tinerfe the Great, in the late fourteenth century, Acaimo took his father's territory. However, the scholar Juan Álvarez Delgado says that Aniaga is the parent of Acaimo, and Acaimo's full name is Acaimo ''Daniaga''. From Peña, Aniaga married a sister of Acaimo de Güímar, and because of this, she gave another name to her son. Lorenzo Javier Jorge (born 2 July 1984 in Tacoronte, Spain), also known as Jorge Loren, is a retired Spanish professional kickboxer and K-1 veteran. Loren was the Super Cruiserweight Champion of the Superkombat Fighting Championship. He is also the 2014 Superkombat World Grand Prix tournament champion and fought for the It's Showtime 95MAX world title, losing to Danyo Ilunga by decision after 5 rounds. He has also fought in Enfusion. As of 1 August 2020, he was ranked the #4 middleweight in the world by Combat Press. Career He had his first contact with martial arts as a child. Autopista TF-5
Autopista TF-5 is a motorway in the Canary Islands, in the north of Tenerife, running from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Puerto de la Cruz. Most of the motorway is a Controlled-access highway or expressway, with some single carriageway remaining west of Puerto de la Cruz. TF-5 begins in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with westbound traffic merging off from Av Tres de Mayor and ends with the motorway splitting between TF42 Motorway and TF82 Motorway in Puerto de la Cruz. María Rosa Alonso
María Rosa Alonso (pseudonym, María Luisa Villalba; 28 December 1909 – 27 May 2011) was a Spanish professor, philologist, essayist from the Canary Islands. Biography María Rosa Alonso was born in Tacoronte, Tenerife on 28 December 1909. Her early works published in newspapers used the pseudonym of "María Luisa Villalba". The first article was titled "En torno a los libros de la guerra" ("Around the books of war"), and was published in the newspaper ''La Tarde'' in 1930. In 1932, she promoted the establishment of the Institute of Studies in the Canaries, and was a founding member of the organization. From 1939, she was a member of Museo Canario, although she had collaborated with the institution previously. In 1941, she was licensed in Spanish Philology in Madrid, having been a student of José Ortega y Gasset and Américo Castro. Guanches
The Guanches were the indigenous inhabitants of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean some west of Africa. It is believed that they may have arrived on the archipelago some time in the first millennium BCE. The Guanches were the only native people known to have lived in the Macaronesian archipelago region before the arrival of Europeans, as there is no accepted evidence that the other Macaronesian archipelagos (the Cape Verde Islands, Madeira and the Azores) were inhabited. After the Spanish conquest of the Canaries starting in the early 15th century, many natives were wiped out by the Spanish settlers while others interbred with the settler population, although elements of their culture survive within Canarian customs and traditions, such as Silbo (the whistled language of La Gomera Island).
