TEAM Unity (Philippines)
Together Everybody Achieves More (TEAM) Unity was an electoral alliance in the Philippines that contested the 2007 Philippine general election. TEAM Unity's candidates were supporters of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her administration. The alliance sought to win several Senate and House seats to protect Arroyo from impeachment attempts. Politicians who opposed the Arroyo administration formed their own electoral alliance, Genuine Opposition (GO), to challenge TEAM Unity. In the Senate election, TEAM Unity won only 3 of the 12 contested seats. In 2011, as a result of an electoral protest, TEAM Unity's Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri lost his seat to GO's Koko Pimentel. TEAM Unity was more successful in the House elections, winning 142 of the 218 district seats. 2007 Philippine Senate Election
The 2007 election of members to the Senate of the Philippines was the 29th election to the Senate of the Philippines. It was held on Monday, May 14, 2007, to elect 12 of the 24 seats in the Senate. Together with those elected in 2004, they will comprise the 14th Congress via plurality-at-large voting. The senators elected in 2004 will serve until June 30, 2010, while the senators elected in this election will serve up to June 30, 2013. The elections to the House of Representatives as well as local elections occurred on the same date. The Philippines uses plurality-at-large voting for seats in the Senate. Jamalul Kiram III
Jamalul ibni Punjungan Kiram III (16 July 1938 – 20 October 2013) was a former self-proclaimed Sultan of the Sulu Sultanate who claimed to be "the poorest sultan in the world". He was known as an unsuccessful candidate for senator in the Philippine general elections in 2007. In 2013, Kiram III sparked a controversy when he revived a dispute between the Philippines and Malaysia by leading an intrusion into the eastern part of Sabah. Maria Teresa Aquino-Oreta (born Maria Teresa Aquino Aquino; June 28, 1944 – May 14, 2020), better known as Tessie Aquino-Oreta, was a Filipina politician. Vicente Castelo Sotto III (; born August 24, 1948), professionally known as Tito Sotto, is a Filipino politician, entertainer and athlete who served as Senate President from 2018 to 2022. Before that, had two stints each as Senate Majority Leader and Senate Minority Leader. He served a total of four terms in the Senate: 1992 to 2004 and 2010 to 2022, tying the record for the longest-serving Senator with Lorenzo Tañada, Franklin Drilon, and Loren Legarda. Ceferino "Joker" Paz Arroyo Jr. (January 5, 1927 – October 5, 2015) was a Filipino statesman and key figure in the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution which ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos. He was a Congressman for Makati from 1992 to 2001 and Senator from 2001 to 2013. Ralph Gonzalez Recto (; born January 11, 1964) is a Filipino politician, who, since 2022, is serving as the representative for Batangas' 6th district and is one of the House Deputy Speakers. Luis Crisologo Singson (born June 21, 1941), better known as Chavit Singson (), is a Filipino businessman and politician, serving as the mayor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, since 2019 up to 2022. Vicente Magsaysay (January 20, 1940 – April 13, 2020) was a Filipino politician who was the chairman of the board of the Philippine Postal Savings Bank since January 22, 2009 until his death. 2007 Philippine House Of Representatives Elections
The 2007 Philippine House of Representatives elections were held on May 14, 2007, to elect members to the House of Representatives of the Philippines to serve in the 14th Congress of the Philippines from June 30, 2007, until June 30, 2010.
