is a 1992 Japanese film directed by Seijirō Kōyama. It is about the Japanese scientist Hideyo Noguchi. It is based on two biographical novels, ''Tōki Rakujitsu'' written by Junichi Watanabe and ''Noguchi no haha: Noguchi Hideo Monogatari'' written by Kaneto Shindō. The screenplay was written by Kaneto Shindō. It stars Hiroshi Mikami. Seijirō Kōyama
(born 16 July 1941) is a Japanese film director. Career Born in Gifu Prefecture, Kōyama attended Nihon University but quit midway to join the independent production company Kindai Eiga Kyokai, where he worked as an assistant director under such directors as Kaneto Shindō, Kōzaburō Yoshimura, and Tadashi Imai. He made his directorial debut in 1971 with the children's film '' Koi no iru mura''. His second film, '' Futatsu no hāmonika'' (1976), earned him a New Directors Citation from the Directors Guild of Japan. His 1983 film '' Hometown'' was entered into the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1987 film, '' Hachiko Monogatari'', about the faithful dog Hachikō, was the top Japanese film at the box office that year. He is known for his humanistic perspective. is a Japanese actor. Career Born in Tokyo, Omi joined the children's theater troupe Himawari Theatre Group when he was still in kindergarten. He made his film debut at age 13 in Kon Ichikawa's ''Hi no Tori'' (1978) and got his first starring role in a film with Shinji Somai's ''Tonda Couple'' (1980). Shingo Yamashiro
was a Japanese television and film actor. Biography Yamashiro, who was originally from Kyoto, Japan, was born , but used Shingo Yamashiro as his stage name. He made his film acting debut in 1957. Yamashiro starred in the television series '' Hakuba Dōji'' ("White Horse Rider"), beginning in 1960. During the 1970s, Yamashiro appeared in several yakuza films such as the ''Battles Without Honor and Humanity'' series and ''Gambling Den Heist'' (1975). Yamashiro also directed occasionally, helming such films in Nikkatsu's ''Roman porno'' series as '' Female Cats'' (1983) and ''Gemini Woman'' (1984). He starred in several variety shows later in his career. Later years Yamashiro was admitted to a nursing home in Machida, western Tokyo, for treatment of diabetes. Junichi Watanabe (writer)
was a Japanese writer. Biography Jun'ichi Watanabe was born in Kamisunagawa, Hokkaido, Japan. His starting point as a literate was the death of a classmate who was his first love in high school. He published his first works while still studying at Sapporo Medical University, where he graduated in 1958. He specialised in orthopedic surgery, while at the same time writing medical, historical, and biographical novels. Following the scandal about the first heart transplant operation performed in Japan in 1968, which became known as the "Wada incident", Watanabe left his medical profession and concentrated on writing. Watanabe wrote more than 50 novels in total, and won awards including the 1970 Naoki Prize for ''Hikari to kage'' (lit.
