Ventspils Municipality (; Livonian language, Livonian: ''Vǟnta mōgõn)'' is a municipality in Courland, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2009 by merger (politics), merging Piltene town, Ance Parish, Jūrkalne Parish, Piltene rural community (from 2010 Piltene Parish), Pope Parish, Puze Parish, Tārgale Parish, Ugāle Parish, Usma Parish, Užava Parish, Vārve Parish, Ziras Parish and Zlēkas Parish. Courland
Courland is one of the Historical Latvian Lands in western Latvia. Courland's largest city is Liepāja, which is the third largest city in Latvia. The regions of Semigallia and Selonia are sometimes considered as part of Courland as they were formerly held by the same duke. The literal meaning of the name is "Land of Curonians". Geography and climate Situated in western Latvia, Courland roughly corresponds to the former Latvian districts of Kuldīga, Liepāja, Saldus, Talsi, Tukums and Ventspils. When combined with Semigallia and Selonia, Courland's northeastern boundary is the Daugava River, which separates it from the regions of Latgale and Vidzeme. Jaunciems () is a small village in the Tārgale Parish of Ventspils Municipality in the Courland region of Latvia. It is one of the twelve Livonian villages on ''Līvõd rānda'' - the Livonian Coast. Both the Latvian and Livonian names mean "new village". Lielirbe ( Livonian: ''Īra'') is a populated place in Tārgale Parish, Ventspils Municipality, Latvia. It is one of the twelve Livonian villages on ''Līvõd rānda'' - the Livonian Coast. The name from Latvian translates to 'Great Irbe (River)', since the Irbe flows in to the Baltic Sea at the village. Lūžņa
Lūžņa (Livonian language, Livonian: ''Lūžkilā'') is a populated place in Tārgale parish, Ventspils municipality, Latvia, one of the twelve Livonian villages on the Livonian coast. Lūžņa was a long fishing hamlet at the coast of the Baltic Sea about 30 kilometers from Ventspils in the direction of Kolka, Latvia, Kolka. During the time of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, a military base was located not far from Lūžņa forcing the inhabitants to move elsewhere. At the beginning of the 21st century, only a few houses and their inhabitants are left along with a fairly wellkept cemetery. The Livonian people called this settlement ''Lūžkilā'' which is probably derived from the river Lūžupe river, Lūžupe along whose banks people had settled. Miķeļtornis
Miķeļtornis ( Livonian: Pizā) is a populated place in the Tārgale Parish of Ventspils Municipality in the Courland region of Latvia. It is one of the twelve Livonian villages on the Livonian Coast. Miķeļbāka Lighthouse "Miķeļbāka" established in 1884 is located nearby. The present lighthouse tower was built in 1957. Tārgale is a village at the centre of the Tārgale Parish of Ventspils Municipality in the Courland region of Latvia. It is situated by the P122 road 13 km from the county council in Ventspils and 185 km from Riga. The name of Tārgale is first mentioned in documents in the year 1230. The village has developed around the center of the Tārgale manor (Tergeln).
