Tôn Đức Lượng
Tôn Đức Lượng (1925 – 10 February 2023) was a Vietnamese painter. Ton was born in Bắc Ninh in 1925. He studied at the École des Beaux Arts de l'Indochine in the class of 1944–1945 together with other famous painters such as Phan Kế An, Dương Bích Liên, Nguyễn Địch Dũng, Trần Quốc Ân. He worked for Tien Phong newspaper during the First Indochina War and was officially in charge of illustrations from 1957 to 1982. Bắc Ninh
Bắc Ninh () is a city in the Northern Vietnam, northern part of Vietnam and is the capital of Bắc Ninh province. The city is the cultural, administrative and commercial center of the province. The city area is 82.60 square km, with a population of 247,702 in 2019. In January 2006, the town (''thị xã'') of Bắc Ninh was upgraded to city (''thành phố''). The Vietnam University of Fine Arts (formerly ''Hanoi College of Fine Arts'') is an art school in Hanoi, Vietnam originally established in Tonkin under French colonial rule in 1925. Phan Kế An
Phan Kế An (20 March 1923 – 21 January 2018), also known under the pseudonym Phan Kích, was a Vietnamese painter and renowned lacquer artist. He was the son of Phan Kế Toại (1892–1973) who was the personal envoy to Tonkin of the last Emperor of Vietnam, Bảo Đại, the Minister of Home Affairs (1945-1955) and former deputy prime minister of North Vietnam from 1955-1973. Early life and career Phan Kế An studied at Bưởi school under famous teachers such as Lê Thị Lựu, Tô Ngọc Vân, and Nguyễn Tường Lân. He enrolled into the École des Beaux Arts de l'Indochine in 1944, but then joined the Việt Minh guerrillas before graduating along with many other artists from his class. First Indochina War
The First Indochina War (generally known as the Indochina War in France, and as the Anti-French Resistance War in Vietnam, and alternatively internationally as the French-Indochina War) was fought between French Fourth Republic, France and Việt Minh (Democratic Republic of Vietnam), and their respective allies, from 19 December 1946 until 21 July 1954.
