Täby Racecourse
Täby Racecourse, ( sv, Täby Galopp), was a Thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Täby, approximately 15 kilometers north of Stockholm. Täby Racecourse was before its closure in 2016, the premier track in Scandinavia. History The venue opened August 28, 1960, and the Swedish King Gustaf VI Adolf was present, as well as an audience of 11,000 people. It was based on the major racecourses in the United States and its facilities was constantly up-graded and were as good as most courses in Europe and were unrivalled in Scandinavia. The racetrack Racing took place throughout the year, the variety available varying from dirt racing under lights during the winter and spring to the top flat and jump races in Scandinavia run during the summer and fall. Täby Galopp
Täby () was previously a trimunicipal locality, with 66,292 inhabitants in 2013. However, as from 2016, Statistics Sweden has amalgamated this locality with the Stockholm urban area. It is the seat of Täby Municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden. It was also partly located in Danderyd Municipality (the Enebyberg area) and a very small part in Sollentuna Municipality. Stockholm Cup International
The Stockholm Cup International is a Conditions races, Group 3 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Sweden open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Bro Park Racecourse, Bro Park over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event was originally held at Ulriksdal dirt course, Ulriksdal as the Grand Prix. It was established in 1937, and was initially contested over 1,800 metres. The race became known as the Stockholm-Löpning in 1951. Its prize money was increased significantly in 1955, and by this time its distance was 2,400 metres. It was renamed the Stockholm Cup in 1956. Bro Park Racecourse
Bro Park is a Thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Upplands-Bro Municipality, approximately 40 Kilometre, kilometres northwest of Stockholm, Stockholm city. Upplands-Bro Municipality
Upplands-Bro Municipality (''Upplands-Bro kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Kungsängen. The municipality was formed in 1952 through the amalgamation of five rural municipalities in Uppsala County. In 1971 it was transferred to Stockholm County. Collier Hill (foaled 26 March 1998) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. He was bred by the prominent American sportsman George W. Strawbridge, Jr. who was involved in both steeplechase and flat racing and who raced in Europe and the United States. Background Out of the mare Polar Queen, a granddaughter of Danzig, Collier Hill was sired by the 1992 Epsom Derby winner, Dr Devious. He was an unbroken three-year-old when Melsonby trainer Alan Swinbank purchased him at the 2001 Ascot Bloodstock Sales for £5,500. Swinbank sold a half-interest in the horse to Russell Hall and then the remaining half to Ashley Young. The Melbourne Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held in Melbourne, Australia. It is a 3200-metre race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is the richest "two-mile" handicap in the world and one of the richest turf races. Anne Elizabeth Cowdrey, 14th Lady Herries of Terregles, Baroness Cowdrey of Tonbridge (''née'' Fitzalan-Howard; 12 June 1938 – 23 November 2014) was a British racehorse trainer and peeress. Early life and family Born Lady Anne Fitzalan-Howard on 12 June 1938, she was the eldest of four daughters of Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk and The Hon. Lavinia Strutt. She had three younger sisters: Mary (who succeeded her as 15th Lady Herries of Terregles), Sarah and Jane (presently 16th Lady Herries of Terregles). She grew up at the family seat Arundel Castle in West Sussex. She was educated at the Priory School at Arundel and the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Woldingham.
