Tzvi Tzur ( he, צבי צור, also transliterated Zvi Tsur, 1923 – 28 December 2004) was an Israeli officer who served as the IDF's 6th Chief of Staff (1961–1963). Biography Early life Tzur was born in the Zaslav in the Soviet Union (now Iziaslav in Ukraine) in 1923, as Tsvi Tsera Tsertenko, and made Aliyah to Mandatory Palestine at the age of two. In 1936, at the peak of the Arab revolt and the 1936–1939 pogroms he joined the Haganah in order to help protect the Jews from Arab rioters. Military career With the outbreak of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Tzur was appointed battalion leader in the Givati Brigade, and participated in Operation Pleshet, among others. David Tzur ( he, דָּוִד צוּר; born 15 July 1959) is an Israeli politician and former policeman. He served as a member of the Knesset for Hatnuah between 2013 and 2015. Biography Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Tzur immigrated to Israel at the age of six and settled in Ashkelon. He began his career with Israel Police in the Counter-Terrorism Unit. Ronen Tzur ( he, רונן צור, born 27 July 1969) is an Israeli politician who briefly served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party in 2006. Political career Ronen Tzur entered politics in 1990, joining the Labor Party. In later years he served as coordinator of the party's faction at the Knesset (under Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin), political advisor to minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, and director of an association for discharged soldiers. He was placed 28th on the Labor Party list for the 2003 elections, in which the party won 19 seats. Ya'akov Tzur ( he, יעקב צור, born Ya'akov Steinberg on 4 April 1937) is a former Israeli politician who held several ministerial portfolios in the 1980s and 1990s. Biography Born in Haifa during the Mandate era, Tzur studied bible and history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Between 1955 and 1957 he was part of the Yotvata settlement group, and in 1957 became a member of kibbutz Netiv HaLamed-Heh. He worked as a teacher in schools in Givat Brenner and Kfar Menachem, before serving as director of the education department of HaKibbutz HaMeuhad between 1972 and 1974. Ze'ev Tzur ( he, זאב צור, born Ze'ev Stein; 11 September 1911 – 28 September 1994) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1955 and 1959, and again from 1965 until 1969. Biography Tzur was born on 11 September 1911 in Krynki, Russian Empire (now in Poland) and studied at a Hebrew gymnasium in Hrodna, before attending a polytechnic in Vilnius, and was a member of the youth movement of the Polish Social Zionists and Dror. In 1931 he made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine. Between 1933 and 1934 he was a member of the Rishon LeZion Workers Council, and in 1944 became a member of HaMerkaz HaHakla'i. A member of the B faction of Mapai, in 1944 he became one of the leaders of the breakaway Ahdut HaAvoda-Poale Zion faction. Tsur Shezaf (born 1959 in Jerusalem; he, צור שיזף) is an Israeli travel-book writer, journalist and novelist. Shezaf wrote for Ynet, Haaretz, and Masa Aher (an Israeli geographical magazine) between 1990 and 2008. Biography and personal life Zur was born in Rishon LeZion on October 17, 1955, to a Syrian mother and Hungarian father. Zur is a divorcee and father of three children.
