Tzaneen Dam
Tzaneen Dam is an earth-fill type dam located on the Groot Letaba River, near Tzaneen, Limpopo, South Africa. After the cyclone Eloise that emanated from the Mozambique side, the dam was certified 110% full by the Department of Water and Sanitation. The dam supplies domestic water to Polokwane and Tzaneen, and irrigation water to the Letaba valley. The hazard potential of the dam has been ranked high (3). Tzaneen
Tzaneen () is a large tropical garden town situated in the Mopani District Municipality of the Limpopo province in South Africa. It is situated in a high rainfall fertile region with tropical and subtropical agriculture taking place in a region. It is Limpopo's second largest town after Polokwane. About 475,000 people reside within a radius, with the town itself holding a population of around 30,000. Tzaneen is today a proud home of both the Tsonga and Bapedi. Groot Letaba River
The Groot Letaba River headwater streams originate in the Drakensberg Escarpment, descending in long runs with an occasional riffle or pool, mostly in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Tributaries At the higher level the Broederstroom River, Politsi River, Debengeni River, Letsitele River, and Thabina River, join the Groot Letaba. Lower down the Molototsi River (a seasonal stream) and Nsama River join before the Nsami Dam. Just before the Kruger National Park the Klein Letaba River flows into the river. From here the combined rivers are simply known as the Letaba River. Dams More than 20 major dams have been constructed in the Groot Letaba River catchment. Limpopo
Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane, while the provincial legislature is situated in Lebowakgomo. The province is made up of 3 former homelands of Lebowa, Gazankulu and Venda and the former parts of the Transvaal province. The Department of Water and Sanitation is one of the departments of the South African government. It is responsible for the state of water and sanitation in South Africa. In May 2009, following the election of Jacob Zuma, the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry was divided, with the forestry responsibility being transferred to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
