Tynaarlo
Tynaarlo (; Gronings: ''Tynaorl'') is a village and municipality in the Northeastern Netherlands. Although it is located in the province of Drenthe, many of its communities serve as suburbs of the neighbouring city of Groningen, capital of the eponymous province. In 2019, the municipality of Tynaarlo had a population of 33,698. History The municipality of Tynaarlo was established in 1998 as the merger of the former municipalities of Eelde, Vries and Zuidlaren; it was supposed to retain the name of the latter, but after the two first voiced their discontent, the name of the smaller central village of Tynaarlo was chosen. Vries, Drenthe
Vries is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 8 km north of Assen. Vries was a separate municipality until 1998, when it was merged with Eelde and Zuidlaren into a new municipality called Tynaarlo. History The village was first mentioned in 1139 as Vrees. The etymology is unclear. Vries is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages. The old village structure is still visible. The Dutch Reformed church dates from the 12th century. It was extended around 1425. The church contains two Sarcophagus, sarcophagi. Vries was home to 415 people in 1840. Vries used to be independent municipality. In 1998, it was merged into Tynaarlo. Taarlo
Taarlo is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 5 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned in 820 as Arlo. The etymology is unclear. Taarlo is an ''esdorp __NOTOC__ An ''Angerdorf'' (plural: ''Angerdörfer'') is a type of village that is characterised by the houses and farmsteads being laid out around a central grassed area, the ''anger'' (from the Old High German ''angar'' =pasture or grassy place ...'' to the south of Tynaarlo. Eelderwolde
Eelderwolde is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 5 km south of Groningen. Zuidlaren
Zuidlaren (Noordenvelds: ''Zuudlaoren'') is a village in the province of Drenthe in the Northern Netherlands. Zuidlaren has just over 10,000 inhabitants and is situated on natural heightened land which is called the Hondsrug. The village is part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Formerly the village had its own municipality called Zuidlaren, but in 1998 Zuidlaren merged with Eelde and Vries. Zuidlaarderveen
Zuidlaarderveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 17 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned around 1642 as "op Suitlarerveen", and means "peat excavation settlement of Zuidlaren". Zeijen
Zeijen (also: ''Zeyen'') is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. The village was first mentioned in 1370 as Lutbert van Zien, and means "slowly flowing" which is probably a reference to the Matsloot stream. Zeijen is an ''esdorp'' without a church which developed in the Middle Ages. Zeijen was home to 215 people in 1840. The ''hunebed'' ( dolmen) is located near the nature area de Zeijer Strubben. De Punt
De Punt is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 11 km south of Groningen. The village closely cooperates with Yde and they are often referred to as Yde-De Punt, however both are still separate villages. History The village was first mentioned in 1424 as "ter Punte", and means "ferry". It refers to a ferry over the Drentsche Aa. In the early 19th century, it consisted of an inn and one house. De Punt was home to 7 people in 1840. In 2008, De Punt reached national headlines as the site of a fire in a shipyard, in which three firemen, aged 29 (Raymond Patrick Soyer), 38 (Egbert Ubels) and 48 (Anne Kregel), died. De Groeve
De Groeve is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 15 km southeast of Groningen. History The village was first mentioned in 1285 as Growe, and means "dug canal" which refers to the Oostermoersche Vaart which is connected to the Zuidlaardermeer. The canal was dug by the monks of the Aduard Abbey to transport peat. The village used to be known as Midlaarderveen as well. De Groeve was home to 99 people in 1840. The polder mill Boezemvriend was built in 1871. In 1934, an electric motor was installed, and the wind mill started to decay. The outside was restored between 1962 and 1963, however it was unable to function. In 1990, it was restored on the inside. In 1955, the pumping station Oostermoer was constructed. Bunne is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 11 km south of Groningen. History The village was first mentioned in 1206 or 1207 as Bonne. It could either mean "settlement of Bunne (person) or "settlement on a height".
