Tycho Brahe ( , ; born Tyge Ottesen Brahe, ; 14 December 154624 October 1601), generally called Tycho for short, was a Danish astronomer of the Renaissance, known for his comprehensive and unprecedentedly accurate astronomical observations. He was known during his lifetime as an astronomer, astrologer, and alchemist. He was the last major astronomer before the invention of the telescope. In 1572, Tycho noticed a completely new star that was brighter than any star or planet. Astonished by the existence of a star that ought not to have been there, he devoted himself to the creation of ever more accurate instruments of measurement over the next fifteen years (1576–1591). King Frederick II granted Tycho an estate on the island of Hven and the money to build Uraniborg, the first large observatory in Christian Europe. Knutstorp Castle
Knutstorp Castle ( sv, Knutstorps slott, da, Knutstrup borg) is a manor house situated in the Svalöv Municipality of Scania, Sweden. History A manor already in the middle of the 14th century, it was owned by the Danish Brahe noble family from the end of the Middle Ages until 1663, after Scania was ceded to Sweden in the treaty of Roskilde. The main building was completed in 1551 by the Danish Royal Privy Councilor Otte Brahe (1518–1571) and his wife Beate Clausdatter Bille (1526–1605). The estate was the birthplace of their children; the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546–1601) and his astronomer sister Sophia Brahe (1556–1643). The estate was sold in 1771 to the Swedish Count Wachtmeister (Swedish family), Fredrik Georg Hans Carl Wachtmeister af Johannishus (1720–1792), and has since belonged to the members of his family. Ven ( da, Hven, older Swedish spelling Hven) is a small Swedish island in the Øresund strait, between Scania and Zealand (Denmark). It is part of Landskrona Municipality, Scania County. Frederick II (1 July 1534 – 4 April 1588) was King of Denmark and Norway and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein from 1559 until his death. Invention Of The Telescope
The history of the telescope can be traced to before the invention of the earliest known telescope, which appeared in 1608 in the Netherlands, when a patent was submitted by Hans Lippershey, an eyeglass maker. Although Lippershey did not receive his patent, news of the invention soon spread across Europe. The design of these early refracting telescopes consisted of a convex objective lens and a concave eyepiece. Galileo improved on this design the following year and applied it to astronomy. In 1611, Johannes Kepler described how a far more useful telescope could be made with a convex objective lens and a convex eyepiece lens.
