Ty King-Wall
Ty King-Wall is a New Zealand ballet dancer, an ex principal dancer with The Australian Ballet and current Artistic Director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Dance career King-Wall was born in Waihi, New Zealand. He started dancing aged seven and trained at the Dance Education Centre, Tauranga. He was a Junior Associate of the New Zealand School of Dance before joining the Australian Ballet School at the age of 16. After graduating Dux with Honours he joined The Australian Ballet in 2006 becoming soloist in 2010, senior artist in 2011 and principal artist in 2013. King-Wall won the Telstra Ballet Dancer Award in 2010. He retired from dancing in 2022, became the Dancers' Director on the Board of the Australian Ballet and a classical teacher at the Australian Ballet School. Waihi
Waihi is a town in Hauraki District in the North Island of New Zealand, especially notable for its history as a gold mine town. The town is at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula, close to the western end of the Bay of Plenty. The nearby resort town of Waihi Beach, ten kilometres to the east, is often regarded as the westernmost point of the Bay of Plenty region. To the west are the hills of the Kaimai Ranges. Telstra Ballet Dancer Award Winners
The Telstra Ballet Dancer Award has been made annually since 2003, in support of the aspirations of The Australian Ballet's elite young dancers. The winner receives a cash prize of $20,000. This is the biggest prize available specifically to a dancer in Australia. Nominees are selected by The Australian Ballet and previous award winners. The Australian Ballet is the largest classical ballet company in Australia. It was founded by J. C. Bay Of Plenty Times
The ''Bay of Plenty Times'' is the regional daily paper for the Bay of Plenty area, including Tauranga, in the North Island of New Zealand. History The ''Bay of Plenty Times'' was first produced on 4 September 1872 as a bi-weekly publication. It consisted of four tabloid-sized pages and cost three pence per issue. The founder and editor was WB Langbridge. Ownership of the newspaper changed many times over the next 40 years, including several times through mortgagee sales. Despite these hardships the ''Times'' issued a Christmas supplement in 1897 which featured one of the earliest use of photographs in New Zealand newspapers. From 1913 the paper's viability stabilised under the Gifford and Cross families. Both families were associated with the paper until it was sold to Wilson and Horton in 1992. Maina Gielgud (born 14 January 1945) is a British former ballet dancer and a veteran ballet administrator. She was artistic director of The Australian Ballet from 1983 to 1996. Stephen Baynes (born 1956 in Adelaide, South Australia) has been Resident Choreographer with The Australian Ballet since 1995. He trained with Joanne Priest and graduated from The Australian Ballet School in 1975.
