Two Mountains (electoral District)
Two Mountains (french: Deux-Montagnes) was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917. It was created by the ''British North America Act'', 1867. The electoral district was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Laval—Two Mountains riding. Lake Of Two Mountains
Lake of Two Mountains (French: ''Lac des Deux Montagnes'') is part of the river delta widening of the Ottawa River in Quebec, Canada, at its confluence with the St. Lawrence River. Lake of Two Mountains has four outflows: Rivière des Mille Îles and Rivière des Prairies, bordering Île Jésus, and two branches of the Ottawa River, flowing into the St. Lawrence via Lake Saint-Louis, on either side of Île Perrot. The city of Deux-Montagnes is located on the lake's north shore, where it flows into Rivière des Mille Îles. The southwest portion of the city of Montreal borders the eastern part of the lake, as does the now merged village of Senneville. Kanesatake (''Kanehsatà:ke''), a Kanien'kéha:ka Mohawk reserve in Kanesatake, Quebec, is also located along the northern shore. Laval—Two Mountains (french: Laval—Deux-Montagnes) was a federal electoral district in the province of Quebec, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1949. This riding was created in 1914 from Laval and Two Mountains ridings. It initially consisted of: *All the parishes, municipalities and towns comprised in the electoral district of Laval and situated on Isle Jésus, and * the electoral district of Two Mountains. In 1924, it was defined as consisting of the Counties of Laval and Two Mountains. In 1933, it was redefined as consisting of: * the county of Laval, excluding the municipalities of Pont-des-Rapides; and * the county of Two-Mountains, excluding the part north of the North River comprised in the municipality of St-Colomban and the northern part of the municipality of St-Canut. Deux-Montagnes is a suburban municipality in southwestern Quebec, Canada on the north shore of the Rivière des Mille Îles where it flows out of Lake of Two Mountains (''Lac des Deux Montagnes''). It is part of the Deux-Montagnes Regional County Municipality in the greater Montreal region. It is located from Montreal. Description Ten thousand years ago, the Champlain Sea covered a large part of southern Quebec and left behind the clay, sand and peat soil that is now under the city of Deux-Montagnes. When the sea retreated to the Atlantic Ocean, along the channel that is now the St-Lawrence River and its tributaries, the Rivière-des-Milles-Iles and the Lake of Two-Mountains, southern Quebec became a favourable area for hunting and gathering.
